I was afraid that Baldelli would go with Thielbar when Jax came in. Damn. I don't think I can watch. Talk about mistakes...... what a goofy use of his arms in the pen. Wish for luck.

The coaches are our biggest allies most of the time. Same as with their players, they will tell their fans to shut it before I even have to say anything. If the ump needs yelled at, I'll be doing it, type thing. Most experienced coaches are on that wavelength. They can also be ejected for their fans behavior at a lot of locations so they have that motive as well.

Fortunately it's usually not that bad. I do put a lot of effort into knowing my job and hustling to be in position and I know that helps to get a neutral crowd. Don't get in the way of a good game.

So is that what evil engine number nine in Skullmonkeys is a refernce to?

Having survived the game, here's my favorite thing from Skullmonkeys (a 90s video game)

Just seems apt.

Can't say not out, it sounds too much like out. It's an emphatic safe arms and maybe slap the ground. Voice can be safe, no catch, no he didn't etc but never not out. No one hears the not part.

As to your first question about what we do when we screw up or there is a chaos play? All you can do is conference with your partner(s) and piece it together as best as possible.  I'm comfortable overturning myself if my partner is confident, not all are but it's a much better presentation of confidence than not doing it. Sometimes we do conference for appearances.

It's really hard to anticipate what 13-18 year olds will do on a baseball field, even the higher level travel ball stuff I work. City league games are like recess sometimes. In a lot of ways the higher levels are easier to work as it's easier to know where things and people are supposed to be.
