It seems with this ump. if the ball is near the top of the strike zone, he must mentally flip a coin in his head as to whether or not it is a strike or ball.

The little box on your TV screen is nowhere close to representing the top of the strike zone for most hitters. 

For Buxton it was literally just below his belt buckle.
