Game Thread: Twins (Ober) v Red Sox (Crawford), 6/20/23 @ 6:40 CT

What did Lewis do wrong to be sandwiched between Buxton, Gallo and Kepler - the "Where rallies go to die trio" .   Probably a good idea to bat those three in a row so the other 6 hitters have a chance to put together a rally - they should be batting 7, 8 and 9.

You know, talking about the Addams Family, wonder if this will be the spark for the return of Lurch?

Ober and Lurch are approx the same height.

Thought people may find this interesting...

Thanks for posting that. Imo...I'm sure a lot of us already suspected that. If that's the situation, and it's that serious, then he should probably be on the IL. He sure isn't helping us at the plate.

I love Buxton and watching him struggle is painful. I'd rather see him get whatever is wrong fixed at this point.

He'd be in CF if he was physically able.

The follow up question that needs to be asked is this:

Are Bucks physical issues also causing issues at the plate?

My analysis is yes, and that since he can't contribute defensively he is pressing at the plate which leads to him struggling more and it just becomes a cycle of futility. I've heard guys who DH'ed primarily say when they get stuck in a slump not being able to play the field puts more pressure on them to contribute with the bat and they end up trying too hard. I think that's what we see from Buxton now.

Some guys do quite well as a DH and others don't. No idea if not playing in the field is the problem with Buck or not.

I'm a huge Buxton fan as well. All I know right now is that he is holding the DH position hostage by hitting .089 -- .311 OPS over the last 30 days... K's in nearly 50% of his AB's.

If he can't physically play OF... than I have to assume that those same physical issues COULD be causing issues at the plate and therefore COULD explain... .311 over the last 30 days.

If the physical issues are causing an issue at the plate... then I have to ask the front office... what are you doing?

You need a CF to cover for the loss of Buxton so you can play a DH who... right now... can't hit. That's two positions severely dented.

Ordering a Pizza for supper.

The guy taking my order just asked me if I want the pizza cut into 6 8 or 12 slices.

I've never been asked that question before. Is this a thing now?

I think there is some psychology involved with it. You're right about the hostage situation. There are too many other young players who could use those at bats right now who are stuck on the bench for a struggling Buxton. I don't think this is something he can hit his way out of (which is what I had hoped before the most recent IL stint.)

Coincidence?

I think not.

Reminds me of a Yogi Berra quote: "You better cut the pizza in 4 pieces because I'm not hungry enough to eat 6."

Only 6, 8 and 12 as options. That's way to systematic for me. I decided to rebel against the limited options so I asked for an odd number of slices. I asked them to cut into 9. The Guy said OK. Didn't even question my request.

Let's see how they do.

Seems pretty easy to tell which is which...from l to R Magda, Zsa Zsa, and Eva.

The way I see it... Buxton hit 28 home runs last year in 340 AB's.

This year he has 10 in 198 AB's.

So he owes me 18 home runs over his next 142 AB's.

Only cut option I've heard is square cut.

Square cut.  Like tic-tac-toe.

So…no transactions after the team drops below .500.

My guess would be that they have about 25-35 options on spreadsheets. Probably working some initial phone/zoom time, scratching the surface. It will heat up in July as we approach trade drop dead date (Aug 1).

I no longer have any confidence in their assessment of what they have and what they go after.

You got to think about it logically.

Bad Roster Decisions got them into this mess... so it stands to reason that Bad Roster Decisions will get them out. 😁
