I’m pretty cynical about the Twins these days, so here my take on the Twins’ Halsey Hall-vintage broadcast intro song, updated to late 2022:

We’re gonna lose, Twins.
We’re gonna score (maybe).
We’re gonna lose, Twins.
Watch that baseball soar (into the catcher’s mitt).
Crack out a foul ball;
Shout a “Hip-Hooray.”
(Yet, despite it all) Cheer for the Minnesota Twins today!

So here’s what I’ve got for tonight:

Rookie Josh Winder starts for the Twins, with his 4-5 record and 4.20 ERA. So much has happened since April that it is difficult to realize that he had never appeared in a major-league game until 2022. Missing much of the season through injury (he’s a Twin, after all) he has made just 9 starts and 13 overall appearances.

For the team with bleached stockings from Chicago, Johnny Cueto makes the start. This has been the 36-year-old’s first season in the American League after 14 with the Reds and Giants. He brings in a 3.15 ERA and a 7-9 record in 22 starts (23 total games). MLB.com says that his nickname is “El Jucho,” for which Google Translate provides no clues. Can any Spanish-speakers on the site help with this? Or is it something unprintable in English?

Cynicism aside, beating the White Sox is always fun, and last night showed that it is possible. Go, Twins!

Glad to see Ryan Jeffers back with the Twins. I still believe he can be an above-average regular catcher, but he’ll have to do more controlling the running game.

The Saints outfield the Twins will send out with Gordon at short shows the dire straits the Twins are in.

My prediction—the sultan of swing tonight will be Carlos Correa with Arraez also getting multiple hits. Correa has contributed 5.0 WAR, so I guess his contract isn’t money for nothing.

And i think technically i think we have the tie breaker with Seattle if they lose out and we win out (and the in-between teams lose enough for it to matter) so we're not entirely eliminated.

Never say die!

(What, never?)

I'm no Spanish speaker but I consulted my Spanish-to-English dictionary and found that it means The Jucho.

Not enough expletives in the song lyrics for my personal taste, but to each his/her own.

Absolutely! I'll just let the bad words dance around what's left of my mind!

Baseball was never more than an entertainment form for me, I still anxiously await spring training every year I do not have snit fits about bad turns.

Losing the 1965 World Series a true bummer, and watch the YANKEES eat Gardenhires lunch was quite annoying but to cuss and snort over the results does nothing to make things better.

Halsey was a classic, along with Ray Scott in the booth.

The play by the Chicago 1st baseman shows a lack heart; did not try to get the the runner at all.

Will he get the Triple Crown  ??

Nothing against Judge, he is a nice fellow but I hope not.

Interesting to see Wallner get walked. He is such a free swinger.

Good move because Jeffers tried to pull a pitch that was middle on the edge away  and fouled it off. He got a good pitch to hit but was tentative with two strikes.

Arraez is a good hitter. That is true. But why has he hit so many fly balls in the past six weeks?

Adjustments and adjustment to adjustments.
