For the same reason they pronounce Gio - gee oh - not  - joe - as it should be.

Hey, if it is OK for long time Twins' fans to not be able to ever learn to spell the names of guys on their own team, it is understandable that people from different cultures, ethnicities, etc, mispronounce names that are much more difficult to learn to say perhaps than spell sometimes. Athletes can't even say ath-a-leet correctly most of the time, and they are hired to be talking heads!

When is Jesus not pronounced Jesus? Depends on where you live.

Gotta put this somewhere:

One of the things I enjoy about this site is that there are several posters I disagree with on 90% of topics (baseball and otherwise). But then every so often they say something I 100% agree with.

Baseball brings us together...er something. Even when we argue about contracts and pitch count philosophies and waiver wire stuff.

It’s time to stop being shocked at the knee high strike. That’s getting called, so make the adjustment.

Plus, it is the rule. Nice to see them get it right. The machines won't miss them no matter where you move your glove that makes it look silly,

Did I mishear, or did the PBP commentator say the twins are an aggressive team when it comes to stealing bases?

I knew my broadcast video quality take had merit to it ?

I guess there’s a slight difference in the picture but doesn’t seem life-changing

That’s fair. I watch Netflix in 1080p cause I’m too cheap to pay the extra money. It’s just fine

57 pitches through 5. What will Rocco do

You have to let him start the inning. But if he gives up a base runner, pull him.

I think a lot of fans don't even think about how hard it must be for many Latino players to do interviews in English. I've always thought that if Luis Arraez or Gio Urshela can speak English in post-game interviews, at the very least the baseball announcers should be able to pronounce their names.

We're asking guys with 6th grade educations from the Dominican Republic to speak English in front of 30,000 people. Broadcasters - likely college graduates with a degree in journalism or broadcasting from a major US university should at least be able to learn the correct pronunciations of these guys' names.

It's like this team just collectively decided to pull its head out of you-know-where several days ago. They look like a different team.

It seems like they do that for a week or two and then go full ostrich again for another week or two.  It's rather frustrating.

A fun stat I read yesterday I believe. The Yankees haven’t won 2 games in a row since June 29-30th.

Ohhhh, poor them!

There's an episode of Effectively Wild where they interviewed the woman who heads the company that does Apple TV's probability stats.

Long story short, their probabilities are garbage.

I LOVE the idea of probability on the fly but this implementation of it is really bad. Sandy Leon with a 35% probability of reaching base.

Yeah, sure okay.

He means while wearing ski masks and out of the back of a truck in a dark alley.

Yeah, sure okay.

Case in point, this Buxton PA's hit probability:

0-2: 25%
1-2: 16%
2-2: 11%

Sure, you bet.

I like that they’re trying something different, but I’d rather see the pitch sequence each at bat vs. a probability of getting a hit.

I think one of the national broadcasters does that, can't remember which.

Personally, I think the probabilities are really fun but only if they're not garbage.
