Twodogs Verified Member Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 I hope they give him a shot to be what he once was. When I mean a shot I'm saying the next couple of months. But it seems weird to me that they could have already made a decision on him; to me that kinda means they might be preparing to cut him. That's why they are waiting until Tuesday? I mean if you were bringing him back to help the squad wouldn't you have done that already? I think they are waiting until the last minute just in case there is another injury which clears a spot for him? I hope I'm wrong, but I guess whatever happens it's up to the Twins to figure out what's best for them.
twins_89 Verified Member Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 I think for Sano the decision that he won't be back next season is pretty much made. The only real question is whether he can hit enough to help the team win in the coming weeks. The most frustrating thing about Sano is that he has a history of being great at the plate for a couple of months at a time. I would expect they will give him at least a few weeks to see if he can get on one of his hot streaks and if not he's probably gone.

goulik Verified Member Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 I didn’t vote because I didn’t get the “xxx moves to the IL and Sano comes up” button… Kepeler’s foot? Polanco’s Back? Buxton’s (fill in blank)? Twins shuffle deck?

I also think it is possible they are spending the time trying to work a trade to move a position player (Urshela? Gordon?) for a reliever.

With both players on the same roster, Rocco went to Celestino more often. Sano on the roster now will only reduce the opportunities for a lefty-crusher, I'm afraid. But Celestino's .408 OPS in July did him in.

mnfireman Verified Member Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 Sano starting at 1B tonight, Arraez on the bench.....and over-reactions go now!!
Number3 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Goes 0-2 with 2 lob and then removed for Arraez as pinch hitter. I guess that was his shot; 2 abs. Or was he hurt? Makes no sense but what does? If he is going to be used this way he has no hope.

In a close game would you rather have the guy that plays the same position have a chance at being on base in the 9 spot or a 1 in 10 shot at a home run? I'd take the guy on base.

Or was he hurt? Makes no sense but what does? If he is going to be used this way he has no hope. The lefty starter had an impact on lineup selection. Arraez is a force against righties but is less capable than the available right-handed alternatives when facing a southpaw - not just in 2022 but with enough career numbers to indicate that he should sit. Sano is less extreme in this regard but as a righty does have the better numbers against lefties - thus got his chances while the situation was favorable. I'm not going to draw any conclusions from 2 PA, but his usage in this game was hardly unfair to either player - they need to produce when given the opportunity. Even Arraez knows that his good performance so far doesn't allow any room for complacency, and I'm sure Sano understands his own situation is even more urgent. Oh, and if 2 plate appearances and then sitting is too much pressure for a player, I hate to think of what the pressure of post-season play would bring. I'm not of the opinion that there are a lot of chokers at the major league level - the pressure of making it through the minor league system would tend to weed out a lot of those - so this is more of a rhetorical thought, that 2 PA makes no more or less sense than any major league situation to put a player in.
Number3 Verified Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Great now I understand why he was given 1 plate appearance yesterday. Baldellilitics. I am not talking about pressure I am talking about giving the guy a decent chance. Its obvious they are giving him just enough rope to hang himself.

They're giving him enough rope to climb out of the deep hole he put himself in. Which is more rope than he's earned. Who should sit so Sano can hit? Arraez? Miranda? Buxton? Tell us.
