If he hits his spots and gets calls on the edges of the strike zone. But if he has to bring 88 down the middle....

Agreed.  So far so good.  Can he keep doing it?  I'm not yet convinced of that.

I have a feeling they are less inclined to save a pitcher's arm if it's a pitcher they don't plan on counting on for the long run.

Not generally,  but with this week coming up in Toronto and the double header today-  it would be very uncharacteristic but would be an opportune time to see if he can get that extra inning.  We are going to have to find those extra innings this week.  

But alas,  they take him out with 2 outs.

I think I would've asked Moran or Minaya to get the last 7 outs of this game as neither will be asked to pitched in a close game two where Jax would/could be
