yeah, sometimes people mess with Wikipedia entrees but I'm not sure why anyone would in this instance. In any event, it may be three days, it may be three games.

Arcia likely should not be a regular CF, but let's not forget that the reason he hasn't played much CF the last two years had more to do with the fact that he was playing with Hicks and Angel Morales, two of the most talented defensive players in the system.

 

If Arcia hits in his brief audition, I see no reason why Ryan Doumit would block him. A) Doumit has not been hitting. He has been very fragile in the past. C) Haven't the Twins been searching for a better bench bat this offseason?

Good point.

In 2010 Arcia was still playing the majority of his games in CF.

 

Doesn't mean he is a high caliber MLB CF, but he could serve as an emergency CF.

look at what happened to Revere, Dozier, Parmelee, Benson, and now Hicks when the Twins pushed them to the big leagues instead of any amount of adequate time in AAA?

 

For a guy I normally side with, I was surprised to read this. A - sample size. B - measureable impact / correlation vs causation. I haven't ever seen anything overcome those two related to giving a prospect a little taste of the majors. I'd have to believe the odds are highly in favor of a young player struggling with a first taste of MLB.

Hicks is not the only one not hitting; although, he's certainly flailing the worst right now. Doumit and Dozier are terrible, and Parmalee (sp?) ain't so good either. If Arcia hits, keep him up.

 

Parm (3 Es) actually hasn't been too bad for a guy batting #7, or even as a RF.

If he puts on a uniform and is less than 25 years old - you can bet your ass Gardy will rag him publicly before he sits the kid down. Gotta break em in early to poor leadership strategies or they don't become docile enough to being jerked around.

It's pretty hard to complain about how Parmelee has been playing. His OBP is good and while he isn't slugging much at this point, his approach has been excellent and the hits will come if he keeps it up.

My take is that your spot in the order is one more reflection of your performance relative to your "peers" (as perceived by the managers who place them there in the order). Not a perfect fit or match by any means, but bottom of the order guys are usually there for similar reasons.

Good spot for rookies and 2nd year men to bat, waiting for an opening to develop later in the season. Look at today's lineup, Parm has a temporary promotion to the #5 spot with Willingham out. Arcia has the #7 place. I would imagine if/when they move Morneau and Willingham, Parmelee will be right there somewhere in the middle order with Plouffe and Arcia. (In a nothing-to-lose season and without viable options, I actually adovcated experimenting with Parmelee in the 2-hole if Gardy refused to move Mauer there).

All comparing Parmalee to other number 7 hittes tells you is how good the other hitters on teh Twins are compared to other teams hitters, it really doesn't tell you how good he is compared to players on other teams. So, if the other 8 hitters hit like butera, Parmalee would probably hit 3rd, not 7th.

 

You don't play 7th hitter, you play RF or 1B or DH. That's who he should be compared to.

Yeah... He did provide stats for RF as well. Use what you prefer... It doesn't hurt to compare stats in various ways.

Parmelee is about sixth on my list of concerns among Twins position players. He has hit better than his numbers and shown surprising competence in the field.

 

If you want an easier one to poke at, poke at Doumit, who was supposed to be the guy sitting tonight until Willingham came in sick. Prior to the illness, the easy thing was to move the Hammer to DH and make Doumit the bench bat. I still favor that longer term, perhaps not right away, though.

What in the world does Parmalee have to do to meet expectations around here? He is currently sitting around league average for a RF in his first full season. What do people expect? A few days ago, his OPS was over .800. It's a bit early, so tons of SSS issues here, but I swear some people have very unrealistic expectations for players.

I think people need to stop talking about Arcia as a CF'er. He played there some in rk ball. He was forced to move due to other CF'ers on his team but he would have moved regardless of that. As a matter of fact he doesn't even project as an average corner OF'er. the only good news is that he will probably be much better than most of the corner OF'ers that have been out there recently. they are terrible.
