  1. Another name to keep an eye on is Andrew Thome from the University of North Dakota who played high school baseball for St. Cloud Cathederal. He had a solid career at UND and has used up his eligibility so he might be a later round pick who's relatively inexpensive to sign. I know he has thrown for a few teams in the last couple weeks. Two other names from SCSU Garrett Harrison and Mike Jurgella have shots to be Day 2 or 3 picks as well.

  3. Finally my adopt a prospect Stephen Gonsalves was promoted. He was 2-0 with a 2.79 ERA through 6 starts for Elizabethton. In his first start in Cedar Rapids today, Gonsalves went 6 innings giving up 3 hits and most importantly no runs. Lets hope he can continue this roll he's been on!!
  4. Through 3 starts Gonsalves has pitched 14 innings, has 14 SO and only 3 walks. His ERA stands at 3.21. He's had very good control so far as the 3 walks indicate but has struggled with not allowing hits. His H/9 is at 7.7 which is 2-3 more H/9 than he was giving up last year across two levels.
  5. Morales?? Vargas will more than likely take over for Morales next year or this year if he were to get hurt. I like the idea of a full time DH similar to the role Big Papi plays.
  6. After a long few months the short season teams have finally started playing. Last night the E-Town twins took the field to open their season. On the hill was my adopt a prospect Stephen Gonsalves. He started the game and went 4 innings giving up 2 earned runs. Over 4 innings he struck out 4, walked 1 and gave up 3 hits. Not a great outing but one that he can build upon. He finished last year at E-Town and if he starts finding success a promotion could be in his future.
  7. Im a bigger fan of Freeland than I am Nola. Mostly because I prefer the LHP, I think they are both very good college arms that can help the twins sooner than later.
  8. Turner has fallen out of the top 10 picks. His bat is looking more and more questionable this spring. I've read some of the reports by Keith Law and he doesn't have much pop in his bat this spring apparently
  9. Favorite Twin: Currently Kyle Gibson Favorite Pizza: Chicken, Bacon and Yellow Peppers
  10. Stephen Gonsalves LHP 6’5” 190lbs 2013 Draft: 4th Rd/110 ovr. High School: Cathedral Catholic (San Diego, CA) Gonsalves could end up being the steal of the 2013 draft. His high school season was a bit disappointing last year and many teams chose to pass on him. Part of this was due to being suspended for a month in the middle of the season. Here is his explanation for what happened courtesy of twincities.com: "There were four kids on my team that got stupid and decided to smoke pot in a hotel room after a loss," said Gonsalves, who signed with the Twins on Wednesday afternoon. "One of them was my roommate, so I had to get him back to my room." "I went back to the school and lied about it," Gonsalves said. "My involvement was very little. The thing I got in trouble for was lying to the dean, covering up for people." This turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the Twins as they were able to add one of the top prep left handers in the draft class in round four, and a guy who has a very high ceiling. They did go over slot to sign Gonsalves but I think it was well worth the extra money. He’s real lanky right now, but at 6’5” he has plenty of frame to grow into. 2013 Stats In the GCL last year Gonsalves appeared in five games, starting two. In 14 1/3 innings he gave up eight hits, seven walks and struck out eighteen. He had a 0.63 ERA in the GCL. He was promoted to the Appy league where he made three more starts, registering twenty one strikeouts while giving up ten hits and four walks. His ERA in Elizabethton was 1.29 over 14 innings. His total stat line for the 2013 year: W L ERA IP H BB K 2 1 0.95 28.1 18 11 39 Gonsalves is going to start in extended spring training this year with a promotion to Cedar Rapids in the near future, joining Kohl Stewart as a solid 1-2 punch at the top of that rotation. I could see him, as well as Stewart, reaching Ft. Myers this year if he continues with his success on the hill.
  11. I was at the game last night and the one strikeout he had was a questionable call. It looked like a ball from where I was sitting. His fastball was awful all night long. 90mph right down the middle belt high and it had zero movement. On the bright side Swarzak looked pretty good. He had a few more mph on his fast ball than what I remember from last year.
  12. Schwarber I believe would be a ways down. Everything I've read is that he probably moves to 1B or the OF or even DH. His value is definitely in the bat... That being said I think a name you're gonna see sneak up draft boards is Brady Aiken, HS lefty out of California. Very similar to Max Fried from 2012 but Aiken looks to be a little bit more physically mature than Fried was at the same stage.
  13. I was definitely high on Correa because he was projected to stay at SS. Much the same way as I'm high on Turner in this year's draft. As we've seen it's hard to find someone who can stay at SS long term... Obviously looking back on it I'm quite glad we picked Buxton
  14. The more I read about these guys the more I hope for Jackson or Turner. Turner may not be that exciting but he has speed to burn and gives the Twins another solid position player with a very good glove at SS. Jackson looks like he could develop into another solid backstop but with power. Even if he fails at Catcher he can move to the OF where his bat and arm will fit just fine. He reminds me a little bit of Bryce Harper. A Catcher who if moved to the OF will move quicker through the system. Obviously he doesn't have the power or all around talent of Harper
