What? No Sire of Fort Myers Competition?

It’s April.  Opening Day is less than a week away.   I know Spring Training was short BUT there must be a SIRE.  I would choose Jake Foria (if he fits the criteria).

Not enough time for someone to stand out that fits the criterea. BTW - What is the criteria any way?

The criteria should adjust to the circumstances. Generally, it should be someone not on the roster, who had little or no chance of making the squad, who then excels in Spring Training creating a most positive impression.   I’ll let those smarter than me figure out how to establish criteria to meet those goals.  
Twins Daily needs to anoint a Sire for 2022.

With the Mussells being the low-A team now, and basically the Instructional camp including two teams of players...it has become one big training camp.

From Tom Froemming's post a year or so ago: "[not] on the 40-man roster and have [no] previous MLB experience".

Based on that, it's really difficult to pick someone this year.  Austin Martin put up very good numbers in just 11 PA.  David Banuelos picked up 3 singles in 7 PA.  Among pitchers, the list of non-roster invites is so full of retreads, it's hard to see any candidates.

Maybe this year we include the retreads and judge based off of how unlikely they were to make the team.  
 

Im rooting for Banuelos to get some time with the Twins.  We got him from Seattle for international spending capacity so they could go after Ohtani.  He is a good defensive C reported at time of trade.

From Tom's 2021 Sire of Fort Myers Preview:

So all of the nonroster guys would be eligible (Faria, Smeltzer, Cave, etc.), as well as any Twins 40-man roster guys who have yet to appear in MLB (Miranda, Winder, etc.).

I would like to cast a vote for Yeison Perez.  A former minor league player and now a coach for the Mussels.  Just an amaizing person whom all of our young players from DR really respect and look up to.  He has shared many bats, signatures, baseballs, photo opps and info on my trips to the Fort for over 8 years running.  He has learned to speak English and has been a Godsend as a friend to me and my wife.  To me an unspoken hero to myself, younger players, and other fans.  He is the main reason I have found away to return every year....even threw hardships. I'm sure most do not know his name, but he is a true star of the Minnesota Twins. If you are ever attend Fort Myers, take my word for it and shake his hand.

Agree with goulik. Josh Winder opened up my eyes with some very solid looking pitching. I have little doubt that he would fit right in a major league rotation and eat a ton of innings. If anybody falters or gets hurt, get Winder up, pronto.

I don’t think Winder and Duran qualify, as they are simply top prospects.  Seems like Smeltzer is the best choice as a surprise non 40 guy to make it on the opening day roster.

Seemed that way, but Smeltzer was just sent to minor league camp today.
