Finally caught on that they had signed the wrong one?

You mean like the Twins signing this ELIJAH GREENE as a minor league free agent and jettisoning him during spring training...

before realizing that the real ELIJAH GREEN has yet to enter the world of major league baseball drafts?

Twins sign BRANDON BISHOP for centerfield depth in the minors. Guess they need more.

They also traded DANIEL ROBERTSON, coming off the injured list, to the Phillies for CASH!

Twins have signed 2 relief pitchers to minor league contracts:

Brock Stewart (pitched in 36 games for LAD from '16-'19 and 10 games for TOR in '19)

https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/stewabr01.shtml

Ben Heller (made 31 relief appearances for the Yankees from 2016 to 2020)

https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hellebe01.shtml

Have they been assigned to teams yet?

Looks like neither pitched in 2021 nor so far this year.  TJS or similar in both cases?

Both Ryan and Strotman were depth pieces by the Rays and they ultimately needed the 40-man spots for other players. Strotman being one of those that you hope you can use or you will lose sooner rather than later.

Teams love to include players in trades who are out-of-options or verging on minor league free agency in their system.

I feel bad for Strotman. He was always on the cusp of making it, but he was never able to take that final step.

He was claimed by the Rangers so he may get another shot.

Twins quietly release Drew Strotman.

The process the Twins used indicated they would have liked to keep him around, but not at the continued expense of a 40-man spot.  I expect the Rangers will conduct a similar charade in the near future.  In any case nobody's just plain releasing him.

If the Rangers remove him from the 40-man (and don't give him a generous off-season contract renewal) he will be a minor league free agent and just walk.

Would that have been the case for the Twins, had he passed through waivers?  I'm not up on the fine points of minor league veteran player rights.

Yes, he would've just become a minor league free agent in the off-season if the Twins had removed him from their 40-man then.

He signed back with the Giants after they outrighted him.

Willi Castro signed to a minor league deal by the Twins. 26 years old, with over three years service. He’s a switch hitter with good speed, excellent versatility and a little thump in his bat. He’s got an option remaining.

Two more AAA catchers. I think the Twins have addressed the catching depth issue sufficiently.

LaMarre provides a right handed hitting outfielder rated to have a good glove. I think it is okay to have him in AAA for depth, but the upside is limited obviously.

Locke St. John signed to a minor league contract. St. John is a 30-year old left handed relief pitcher who has had a cup of coffee in the majors. He provides more southpaw options along with Coulombe and Moran. The Twins also signed Aaron Sanchez to a minor league deal so they are adding pitching depth.

A lot of ex-Twins have signed minor league contracts. Waiting for Rosterman to update us.

Lots of minor league free agents cut loose. Catchers Grayson Greiner and Chance Sicso have been released from St. Paul, along with pitchers Locke St. John, Nolan Blackwood, Parker Bugg and Tyler Webb.

2019 10th-round draftee right-hander Ben Gross, who played for Wichita last season, retired.
