Rosterman Verified Member Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 Twins sign BRANDON BISHOP for centerfield depth in the minors. Guess they need more. They also traded DANIEL ROBERTSON, coming off the injured list, to the Phillies for CASH!
Rosterman Verified Member Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 Twins signed MICHAEL BOYLE, a lefty relief arm out of the Dodgers system and assigned him to the FCL complez. Looks like neither pitched in 2021 nor so far this year. TJS or similar in both cases?

Rosterman Verified Member Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 Both Ryan and Strotman were depth pieces by the Rays and they ultimately needed the 40-man spots for other players. Strotman being one of those that you hope you can use or you will lose sooner rather than later. Teams love to include players in trades who are out-of-options or verging on minor league free agency in their system.
bean5302 Verified Member Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 I feel bad for Strotman. He was always on the cusp of making it, but he was never able to take that final step. He was claimed by the Rangers so he may get another shot.

The process the Twins used indicated they would have liked to keep him around, but not at the continued expense of a 40-man spot. I expect the Rangers will conduct a similar charade in the near future. In any case nobody's just plain releasing him. FlyingFinn, Brandon and stringer bell 3

If the Rangers remove him from the 40-man (and don't give him a generous off-season contract renewal) he will be a minor league free agent and just walk. ashbury 1

Would that have been the case for the Twins, had he passed through waivers? I'm not up on the fine points of minor league veteran player rights.

stringer bell Verified Member Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 Willi Castro signed to a minor league deal by the Twins. 26 years old, with over three years service. He’s a switch hitter with good speed, excellent versatility and a little thump in his bat. He’s got an option remaining.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted December 31, 2022 Author Posted December 31, 2022 Danny Coulombe signing a minor-league deal with the Twins for the fourth straight year.

I think the Twins have addressed the catching depth issue sufficiently. LaMarre provides a right handed hitting outfielder rated to have a good glove. I think it is okay to have him in AAA for depth, but the upside is limited obviously.

Hawkeye Bean Counter Verified Member Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Enlow and Ortega both passed on waivers. So effectively we now have 3 lottery arm type pitchers in Alexy, Enlow and Ortega. Hopefully one of them can take the jump up.

stringer bell Verified Member Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 Locke St. John signed to a minor league contract. St. John is a 30-year old left handed relief pitcher who has had a cup of coffee in the majors. He provides more southpaw options along with Coulombe and Moran. The Twins also signed Aaron Sanchez to a minor league deal so they are adding pitching depth. A lot of ex-Twins have signed minor league contracts. Waiting for Rosterman to update us.
