Badsmerf Verified Member Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Good job on the line-up to Gardy. The top 7 should be comparable to any team in the league. Hopefully this team will at least score some runs and play decent defense.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted April 1, 2013 Author Posted April 1, 2013 Yeah, not a lot of complaints about that lineup. I don't like Florimon starting but ah, whatever. Gardy wasn't exactly given a plethora of options to run out at short...
edavis0308 Provisional Member Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 It'll be a problem that takes care of itself when Florimon proves to be the best defensive shortstop of all time.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted April 1, 2013 Author Posted April 1, 2013 It'll be a problem that takes care of itself when Florimon proves to be the best defensive shortstop of all time. I heard he's going to take the field performing double back-flips just to how Ozzie how it's done.
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Hell yes about the lineup. This is *exactly* how I would construct it. That is the first time I have ever said that on opening day at least in the Mauer era.

That is the first time I have ever said that on opening day at least in the Mauer era. Usually, I'm happy when I merely dislike Gardy's lineups. To be neutral on a lineup is a huge win for me. To see a lineup that's just about ideal, well... That doesn't happen very often.
chuchadoro Provisional Member Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I'm glad Dozier isn't batting 2nd. He was apparently pressing last year and doesn't need added the pressure of filling a spot in the batting order that is above his capability. Batting Mauer at #2 makes a lot more sense than Dozier at #2 and Parmelee at #8.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Nice lineup. The pitching matchups otoh, not so thrilling.....good luck to the team, and have fun everyone that gets to go.
sorney Verified Member Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Delmon Young!! Hehehehe, just seeing that name gives me hope the Tigers might choke (I know he isn't with them anymore, but any team willing to take him on isn't the brightest)
tmerrickkeller Verified Member Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Sorry - can't figure it out, so help me. I see the stat line on everyone, above, and I get that it is GP, AB, R, H, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, (mystery stat), BB, SO, SB, AVG, OBP, SLG, OPS, WAR. So what's the mystery number?
jay Provisional Member Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Stay warm out there today, kids. High of 37 with a windchill pushing it lower. Eek.

jay Provisional Member Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Brock, I'm assuming these series previews will be a recurring theme. Since I prefer not to ever leave TD, could you add game times and broadcast info with the pitching matchups?

I had to piece this one together in a rush, as I forgot to do it over the weekend. I'll be sure to add those elements to future updates.

jokin Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Delmon Young!! Hehehehe, just seeing that name gives me hope the Tigers might choke (I know he isn't with them anymore, but any team willing to take him on isn't the brightest) When you're at least willing to spend money to win championships, a dumb move or two won't kill you. And even in Delmon's case, the dumb move of acquiring him paid off in the playoffs, Young improbably has the record for the most Tiger post-season HRs.
jay Provisional Member Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Did you glance at who the Twins are playing today? OK, Detroit is only better from 1-6, not 7. Come on, I'd certainly take Mauer over Torii and I'd call Dirks/Plouffe a coin flip (neither is established, but have flashed skills). That'd still be...1 - Tigers2 - Twins3 - Tigers4 - Tigers5 - Tigers6 - Flip it7 - Twins [sad face]
glunn Community Moderator Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 It seems like this offseason lasted forever and I am glad that we are now getting back to actual baseball. Go Twins!

That'd still be...1 - Tigers2 - Twins3 - Tigers4 - Tigers5 - Tigers6 - Flip it7 - Twins [sad face] Mauer is definitely better than Torii but as you listed there, it gets pretty ugly after that point... Still, I'm slightly bullish on the Twins lineup this season. I think they'll be somewhere around middle-of-the-road with the ability to narrowly make the top five if things go right, narrowly miss the top ten if things go horribly wrong (again).
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 yay baseball!!!! Worley vs. Verlander.... why is it I have a feeling it's going to be a long season in the pitching department.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted April 1, 2013 Author Posted April 1, 2013 Will this be the Game thread? Yep. The first game of every series will have its game thread in the "series preview". I don't see the point in creating a second thread for what is essentially conversation about the first game of the series.
notoriousgod71 Verified Member Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Jamie Hersch? It's too cold to tell if I like her or not
Guest USAFChief Guests Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 During the team intros, the Tigers got "Jessica" by the Allman Brothers. Awesome. The Twins got something unlistenable. C'mon! (had to find something to whine about.)
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted April 1, 2013 Author Posted April 1, 2013 Looking at the fans in the stands, I'm quite happy that I didn't try to pick up tickets for today's game.
