  1. I'd think that even with his poor start that Mauer would get a fan vote. Maybe today is when he starts turning things around and his poor start is a moot point? Here's to hoping anyway..
  2. Everyone is disregarding the fact that it was in Singleton's best interest to take the contract from his previous off the field issues also.
  3. Man its refreshing to look at a lineup and think... man that team can slug.
  4. I actually would wonder if you could turn around and buy a different set of tickets for cheaper than what yours sold for and you could still make a net gain from it...
  5. Interesting thread. A few thoughts: Don't you need to have a baseline of some sort with each guy - like mentioning or accounting for what the average k/9 for each guy would have been? Along the lines of what Brock kind of touched on - some of those older guys...the game was different back then. One other thing that immediately jumped out at me was, what are the ground ball %'s for all these guys? To further that statement, you can be a really good pitcher that conserves your pitches, gets weakly hit balls for outs, saves pitches, and go deeper into games. Maybe you don't pitch for strikeouts to allow you to go deeper in games, but when you need a K you can get one. Halladay especially always seemed like a really good example of that.
  6. Point taken. I just wanted the portion clarified that you can't look at things starting today moving forward, but in the past and how we got to this point also. Agreed on preaching to the choir.
  7. And why are Pelf and KC stopgaps? Where is the pitching rotation we have been able to "build" so we dont need them and Hughes and Nolasco and Deduno to fill out (or make up entirely, sans Gibson)? You comment on it like it starts today and moving forward with the guys in the minors. Where is the wave of players that should have already been built up in the past to be playing for us?
  8. Look what we have "built" into our rotation this year from the previous years though.
  9. Now that we mention it, the main page could use it too I think I am still used to BYTO having it. It's the little things, ya know?
  10. Having some type of 'back to forum page' at the bottom of a thread would be useful instead of like you said, having to hit the back browser button or scroll back to the top.
  11. Danny Santana's average is four times higher than Florimon's: .444 vs .109** **-sample size
  12. Runners on 2nd and 3rd....no outs. Runners on 2nd and 3rd........two outs. well I cant wait to see how this ends.
  13. Short, sweet, to the point:
  14. Doesnt someone nee DFA'ed today for Matty G? Did I miss something?
  15. So does Matty G play bass in the band Gardy is getting back together? Wait, did Bartlett play keyboard then? I'm all sorts of confused on what type of band this is supposed to be.
  16. As of today: Pedro Florimon OPS - 0.342 Two players have a higher ISO (isolated power) than that: Troy Tulowitzki - 0.379 Jose Abreu - 0.354
  17. Knowing this team's past with short stops, they will probably sign Drew to a 4/60 contract a week before the draft.
  18. While I get your point, referencing the out of state students at a 5,000 enrollment Drake probably isn't the best way to validate what you are saying. Having went to Iowa though, I can vouch for you that eastern Iowa is more or less NL country thanks to all the Chicago transplants in Iowa City. That being said, I don't get the idea behind only trying to promote south of 20 some of the time for the Twins. Even though the Iowa Cubs are here, there is a very high number of people in the area that are not Cubs fans. It seems to me that when attendance starts to dip is when they would want to promote more to get people outside of the Minneapolis area to come to a game.
  19. Over the past couple years, it has seemed pretty evident through the Twins Winter Caravan that wherever they stop is where they prioritize. They came to Des Moines a few years ago (2010?) and finally came back this last winter. Too bad this most recent one was a private event and the public couldnt even go. Probably a promotion to businesses to try and sell tickets for the suites or something? I would think that as the luster of your new ball park wears off, you would try to come to places like Des Moines MORE, not less.
  20. Eh, I feel like the Twins just punt anything south of the northern most counties to the other 5 teams in the blackout area for the state. It really is too bad - when they were promoting Target Field they seemed to be making an effort to expand Twins Territory further south towards Des Moines. That seems to have went away by now though, even with one of their minor league teams playing in the state again. I really don't get it.
  21. I haven't checked the guide yet but it seems whenever there are two Minnesota games at once, the other ends up on 652. Just a helpful bit of info for down the road if anything.
  22. No. Then we have a hole at 2nd, and someone else has to bat second. /rim shot.
  23. I wonder what it would take to trade for JJ Hardy. ....too soon?
  24. I get the willingness to cut marginal players as being refreshing and all... but... at the expense of a 35 year old middle infielder that is going to be used in the outfield for the first time in his career...? Does not compute.
  25. There's just something about the fact that the outfield is a position of strength for our minor league system yet our current projected backup outfielders are Bartlett and Escobar.. if there isn't a move in the works it really just leaves you kind of shaking your head
