Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 8 hits and 7 outs recorded by "la maquina". should have gotten a maytag

His ERA+ took a step forward in 2019 and he's basically replicating that performance this season. He's not an ace, which is mildly disappointing, but he's a very good pitcher who has likely peaked in the past couple of seasons.
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 I don't recall ever seeing as many obstruction and interference calls as I have with this team. It's bizarre.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Sano is the biggest disappointment to me this year. He's just fallen off a cliff. Berrios is what I'd suspect, a good to sometimes very good pitcher, but not great.

I'm not crazy about giving any pitcher $100m but if the Twins are going to do it, I think Berrios is as good a choice as any.

And that's why I think if the Twins cN only sign one of Berrios/Buxton, it has to be Buxton. At least when Buxton is on the field, he's a difference maker. I don't think Berrios really is.

I mean, really, just go look at previous years.

I have. he's been a merely average player who strikes out a ton. one year of 30+ homers when everyone and their sister was hitting them. what did you really expect from him?

It's more than that... way more than that. I don't think there was any reason to expect Sano to just stop hitting the ball hard. His exit velo was literally 99th percentile in 2019-2020. 2021? 78th percentile. While there have always been flaws with Sano's approach, he made up for it by crushing the ball when he got hold of it. That stopped happening for whatever reason. His soft hit rate has more than doubled year-over-year.

Merely average would be acceptable compared to what he's given the team this year. He's not even close to that.

Well, given his previous years, where 4 of 5 not in the Covid year were well above league average, above league average. Certainly not below average. Even last year he was league average. I'm ok with you disagreeing, you asked what I expected. Not this.

Here again is where they miss Rosario; Larnach is slow and has what looks to be a very weak arm. Had Larnach not bounced the ball to Donaldson there would have been no interference but Donaldson had to run back to get the ball. Rosario had strong arm.

Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 we should debate about who has stunk worse more often. it seems to be working
RpR Verified Member Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 If the Twins had played all year, minus pitching, like they are playing now, they would have won at least five more games.
