Perhaps I missed this being acknowledged on TD, but Ray Miller passed away this afternoon. 

In ‘85 when they fired Billy Gardner mid-season, they didn’t want to give the job to a 34 year-old 3rd-base coach, so they gave it to a 40 year-old pitching coach instead. The mistake was correct before the following season concluded.

 

RIP, Mr. Miller.
