Buxton came off the bench in the 6th that game he missed with non-covid illness. It would have been nice if Cruz had the same recovery speed.

If we can't hit against pedestrian pitchers like the Tigers, Mariners, and Red Sox are throwing at us, how are we going to score runs against the good ones?

My son texted me like 2 days into the season with...."and it took 36 hours for Cave to worm his way into the starting lineup."

Garlick. Astudillo and Simmons. None, and I mean none, of those 3 guys will keep up at even an average or above MLB level for a starting player by mid-summer. 

 

Agree about Astudillo but why not Garlick and Simmons? Simmons isn't a MiLB hitter at baseline like you say he is. Neither is Garlick.

Common theme thus far is that we are doing a horrible job at adding runs on when we get into teams bullpen. It's a great recipe to lose games. Getting the starter out of the game early is great and all, but you must do damage to the middle relievers after doing that.

Devers homer was on a pitch that Alcala put it right where it was called by Garver. Glove didn't have to move.

Remember that bullpen wins are 100% dependent on the hitters taking the lead... so yes, their record is 0-4. But since this team so rarely scores runs against opposing bullpens, it's nearly impossible to get bullpen wins.

There are times when I am not sad that I have to listen on the radio...

 

I swear I heard them say this is the coldest game Boston has played since 1979.  It is cold - but not freakishly cold - and it is Boston - surely they have had some low 30 temp games in the last 40 years.

 

The defense sounds better anyways....

Notice there is some Jake Cave hate in here...and I cannot agree more. He cannot be starting on a team that hopes to repeat a third time as division champs. We've seen what he is...a decent 4th OF, and nothing more. He gets exposed when playing long stretches in a row, or against left handed starters. To no fault of his own, he's being asked to do both right now. I was asking for an OF signing all off-season (Brantley or Springer, or even a tier below though guys), and it never came. Now we're paying for it. AK can not get to Target Field fast enough.

Twins have been outscored 9 to 0 in the ninth inning this year - they might need to work on that - hopefully starting now.
