This could be huge. Fangraphs only projected the White Sox as 1 win ahead of the Twins before this injury, and Jimenez was worth 3.2 WAR himself.

 

Their backup outfielders on the roster right now (Engel and Garcia) both project at exactly replacement level, as does non-roster outfielder Nick Williams.

Well, not signing a DH or 4th outfielder felt a little "half way" for the White Sox.

 

If the Yankees decide to keep Tauchman, then I guess the White Sox could pick up Jay Bruce or Derek Dietrich from them instead.

If the Sox want to waste resources on Aquino, go for it.  20% soft contact, 28% k rate, bad defensively, and turns 27 next month.  Don't let him hit fly balls, and he's a total disaster.

Plenty of options on any given day, with help on the way from major prospects. In this case for Chicago, they have 23 year-old former 3rd overall pick Andrew Vaughn to add to the mix. It’s likely a matter of when, not if, he’ll be brought up (although, it will require a roster move).

The White Sox bench looked really bad, even before the Jimenez injury. I don't think they really had "plenty of options on any given day" at DH -- if Vaughn didn't make the team and produce right away, they were almost certain to have a replacement level or worse player in their lineup every single day, even at full health.

 

The Twins, on the other hand -- I don't know that all of our LF options will be great, but between Cave (2.8 fWAR in 660 PA), Rooker, and even Arraez, I'm pretty confident we can put together an above-replacement group, even before Kirilloff enters the picture.

Reading the quotes from the front office guy for Sox, he was basically calling Eloy and idiot for trying to make play in ST game.  He said, "well at least it happened trying to make a play, sure it was ST game but he was trying to make a play."  Not exact quote but close.  I would feel the same way if Buck hurt himself in ST trying to make highlight play.  I get it that players want to win all games, but sometimes you need to make a business decision when games are meaningless.

It's easy to second guess the decision to jump, given the knowledge that the injury occurred. But when I watched the video, it didn't jump out at me that the attempt was off the charts or anything. He got hung up on the fence unexpectedly.

 

I wonder if the team trainers will be working on upper-body strength for everyone at camp. "Soldier! See that rope? Climb it!"

I think the problem is his lack of skill as an outfielder rather than making bad choices. He made a really awkward leap at a wall against the Twins last year on a ball he really had no chance to catch and had to be removed from the game. He just misjudged the ball and thought he had a shot. Can't blame a guy for trying (though at least that was a real game). You can definitely wish he had a better sense of when to jump and when to stay on the ground, though.
