Just stop. Ignoring the fact Donaldson is 100 percent responsible for not being in this game, the 7th inning changed the game and had NOTHING to do with the umpires.

 

It is very apparent we feel different about umpiring. And this comes from both having umpired at some level. I come away from it knowing and admitting we guess in that position, and the players are what is important in the game. To say a grown man should be kicked out of a professional baseball came for kicking some dirt on home plate? Just stop? I don't think so. It is a game. Power trips by umpires is not something I will ever stick up for, and has no place in the game as far as I am concerned. No way Donaldson should be ejected from this or any other baseball game for that.

more likely the blue jays pass the yankees than the yankees pass the rays. they play eachother 5 more times, although toronto has been outscored 33-8 in their past two meetings

If we tank, we might get the 7 or 8 seed yet and get Oakland or the Rays or Chicago.

 

Might be the best bet to avoid seeing Garret Cole in game one.

Yup. People say that it's a short season and these results should be taken with a grain of salt, but the plate approach just seems off this year for most of the lineup. Hitting coach should be canned at the end of the season.

if cleveland hadn't gone into full on tank mode already, that would be a good possibility. we'd really have to foul things up to get lower than the 5 seed at this point

Offense can take their share of the blame, but the defense didn't turn in a double play they should have made. Pitching staff allowed too many runners, that is, the bullpen.

barring a miracle comeback...this loss is on everyone. Terrible game...one of the worst..given its importance. As for playing the Yanks in a 3 game series....no thanks. We don't have a chance.. Twins will go quietly in the 9th. (unless Buxton gets his 1st 3 HR game of his career.

In the NHL, no that’s not true

I've worked part time as a hockey referee for 15 years (not in the NHL, but I have watched plenty of NHL games). Sure you can curse and swear at the referees, and they'll curse and swear right back. That's all accepted as normal in the NHL, which is fine. But if you do something to obviously show up a referee, say, spray some snow at him, spit at the ice in front of his skates, etc, you'd better believe your ass is at least in the box for a 10-minute misconduct. If it happens in response to a lot of jawing, you'll very likely get a game misconduct. Referees will tolerate a certain amount of verbal abuse, as will umpires, but when a player obviously shows them up, they're more than likely gone.

 

I think the umpiring has been pretty bad this series. I had no problem with Cruz and Baldelli getting tossed the other night on that awful strike three call on Jeffers, especially since the game was pretty much over. But this move by Donaldson was out of the normal bounds of protest, was clearly meant to get himself ejected, and certainly contributed to costing this team the game.

That's a bad bad matchup. Just hope we'd win ONE game to break the streak
