Wow, just looked at Chris Parmalee's transactions for the last few years since he left the Twins. That is a lot of bad breaks health wise. Batting 500 for the Yankees and pulling a hamstring, Broken arm in Baltimores system, two stints on the DL last year. Dudes had it rough

The Twins have added pitchers Mitch Horacek, Ryan Garton, Blaine Hardy, as well as catcher Juan Graterol as minor league free agents. ALl should start the season at Rochester.

Right up there with last year's return of Pat Dean! But hey, he's a lefty.

Unlike Pat Dean, Thielbar lasted a few years and had a 2.74 ERA, though with some pretty bad peripherals. But yeah, he shouldn't sniff the majors this time around.

He’s also “one of us” so mind your Ps & Qs people. And matter of fact, he had that nice scoreless streak to begin his career here.

 

I hope his recent spike in K/9 is for real and either way I have no doubt he can still get some outs.

I have no problem with this... Pitched in the Premier12 last month. He was throwing pretty hard this year. I thought he had started coaching, but maybe he was just working with college players. 

 

Twins need a second lefty reliever. Blaine Hardy is an option. Thielbar thrown into the mix. 

 

Definitely not a spot I would spend a lot of money, so I am good with this.

I realize it's just minor league depth, but I just don't understand the Asche, Reinheimer, or Tovar signings. Gotta be others out there with at least a slight bit of a track record or promise.

I realize it's just minor league depth, but I just don't understand the Asche, Reinheimer, or Tovar signings. Gotta be others out there with at least a slight bit of a track record or promise.

 

The next tier up from these guys probably want to go to places that don't have Sano, Polanco, Arraez, Adrianza and probably either a 1B or 3B coming.  

 

Lewis and Blankenhorn probably both spend a 1/2 season or so in AA before moving up. So, it kind of is what it is. They all can be solid in a pinch.

I think the issue for the Front office here is being prepared for all scenarios. If they are not ready to be pushed, ie they stumble, are you prepared? All organizations are going to have guys that no one expects to see the majors but you want the best guys around those that you do expect to make it.

 

And FWIW, those filler guys still should be given respect for both their role and to be at AAA, they are dang good baseball players.

If you back and look at the rosters of the sixties, they were full of guys who ahd a cup-of-coffee in the majors, and msot were hoping to get a few more days of player's association time. Prospects tended to jump from AA ball to the majors, or those on the cusp were welcomed at AAA ball because ALL of these guys played, at some point, as that extra bat or arm in the majors at some point in their career. Yes, praise them. We forget that the BEST in the minors could be the WORST in the majors, but in both situations they are fulfilling a roster need in which they excel, perhaps aagainst someone else more talented but still in need of discipline and seasoning.

FWIW, I am familiar with Asche from his time in college for the Huskers. Not a top prospect, he still had some helium rising through milb. He's had some ML experience and could prove to be a decent, "useful" type of player.

Twins signed RHP Chris Rowley, who gave up 20 earned runs in 16 1/3 innings last year with the Triple-A affiliate of the Padres, to a minor league deal.
