In fairness to Grisham, once that hit dropped, the game was tied for sure and likely already lost for the Brewers, regardless of his error. Would have been runners on 1st and 3rd, I think, with Kendrick due up, Hader cooked, and no one of note remaining in the Brewers pen. (While the Nationals still had Hudson and of course Corbin if they game went to extras.)

True, it didn’t cost them the game. But it was way more crushing than just a plain single would have been. Especially with Soto getting thrown out, it was like a lightning bolt, and suddenly they are batting in the 9th with the season on life support in an instant.

A’s and Rays tonight. Who are you rooting for? I kinda lean Tampa, but I would be happy with either.

Tampa for me. I have a nephew at the game. He’s cheering on the A’s, which makes sense ... he now lives in Oakland, and he’s a Red Sox fan.

Grossman with a pair of hits for Oakland tonight.

Nick Anderson gave up a single to the first batter he faced, before striking out the next 4 (including Grossman), to help close out the Rays victory.

The A’s were a scary team. The Astros SHOULD cruise against the Rays. But this is playoff baseball. Anything can happen

Manager: "This is the game we signed Keuchel for. He is always one pitch away from getting out of the inning."

Bullpen heating up as he is throwing a shutout in the 4th and then taken out after a bloop single where Markakis got a late break on the ball.

Pretty sure I'd rather have Keuchel out there than anyone else on that pitching staff.

Just checking on the Braves/Cardinals game. I don't know why it surprises me but to hear the childish/racist "chop" being sung again is just stunning. Please, Cardinals, beat them.

The Cardinals really love unwritten rules which is aimed at marginalizing minorities so I hate them too.

Moderator's note: This topic, and the replies that have followed, are well-traveled ground that experience has shown leads to nowhere productive. Please end the tangent.

Howie Kendrick is having a pretty terrible Game 1 at first base for the Nats - at least through the first four innings there were 2 makeable plays that... were not made.

That was a pretty insane 8th and 9th inning to the Braves-Cardinals game. 3-1 Braves lead into the 8th, Cards win 7-6. Dang.

Looks like the Dodgers are dominating, as expected.

I'm starting to get nervous tomorrow... but in a good way. It's been a long 9 years since that last Twins playoff series.

Well, both NLDS are tied at 1-1 now, so we'll have another day of 4 games on Monday!

The Astros have taken care of the Rays so far... but at least the Rays haven't looked like a minor league squad, like the Twins have so far.

I have watched a good deal of the Astros-Rays series and there's no question that it is at least competitive. In the post-season, even the worst playoff teams should be able to compete. It's almost unheard of to get destroyed in the post-season because a team almost always has to be elite to get there. Which really makes the Twins series very strange. This is the first year that we have gotten destroyed by them. Normally, it's at least a little bit interesting.

And I get the real sense that a lot of the TV broadcasters are disappointed in the Twins. Not because we are losing, but because we are doing baseball and tv ratings a great disservice by our play on the field.
