Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 Terrible managing to let him pitch.
biggentleben Verified Member Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 I feel slightly better about the Twins showing after watching this, although Atlanta still won two games and could have easily won the series. Should have. Replay constraints hurt that, but oh well. Can't come out and do this in a winner-take-all game.
SwainZag Community Moderator Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 Terrible managing to let him pitch. Maybe they figured he had warmed up, he was going to start and they want to keep him on regular rest for his 1st start? Will be interesting to see.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 The Braves could be the first team to have a position player pitch in a playoff game!
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 The Braves could be the first team to have a position player pitch in a playoff game!Well that’s something, I guess. And the Twins hit the most home runs in a single season than any team. I’m holding onto that. (Yeah, I'm being slightly sarcastic. )

biggentleben Verified Member Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 The Braves could be the first team to have a position player pitch in a playoff game! Really not sure who it'd be.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 Right. Foot on the gas. Pulling your starting pitcher after one or zero innings because of a big, big lead seems a little too clever by half. they had a 99% chance of winning then. I'ts more now. He could have pitched games 1 and 5.....now he'll be saved for game 3 and 7, if there is a game seven......He should not have batted in the second, or pitched past that. No way.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 no team down 13 has ever come back to win, regular or post season. in 144 years....
cardsfan Verified Member Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 Whoa, Cardinals! Woohoo! Now go Nats tonight!!Let's go Nats.
biggentleben Verified Member Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 ...and Flaherty should face suspension for that crap. Up 13-1 and you fire a fastball up and in to make a point to Acuna. He should not hold a ball again this postseason. Then again, it's the guy behind the plate who really has the issue.

I guess I would need a little more information about that before I start calling them out for letting their pitcher pitch more than 0 or 1 inning.

Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 He was their best pitcher BY FAR this season. Honestly, even with a 10 run first inning, I would be sweating at least until sometime in the middle innings. But then the Cardinals added on a bit, and so on. And I see no reason to pitch him six innings, though. I'm not up in arms about it. I don't know their bullpen situation or if they have three more dependable starters.

They had a 99% chance of winning before they batted. The let him bat multiple times, even after he threw at Acuna (I can't believe the Barves didn't retaliate, frankly).

A big part of that is the quick trigger finger that umpires have with the warnings. In the National League, at least, a pitcher would have the opportunity to wear his decision to throw a 90+ MPH fastball up toward a hitter's head. The umpire took that away with warnings. Flaherty should absolutely be suspended.

Their ace throwing at a player up 13-1 in a deciding game on a 1-2 count? He immediately looked apologetic and even flinched as it tailed inside. Maybe it's just being me being a neutral fan....but I would be shocked if he was suspended.

He'd been money with his 2-seam fastball all game, only missing the target glove-side all game. Darling even mentioned it that same inning. Then he fired one at 90 MPH that went up and in and immediately had words for Acuna ("Just go to first", per multiple fans, both Braves and neutral who were at the game)? I don't think that's a mistake. Nevermind that Yadi took the opportunity to further his a-hole reputation everywhere but Cardinals fans and his own clubhouse. Great teammate, horrible competitor. He'll do anything to defend "his guys", but he's also easily irked by anything that he sees as disrespectful or upsetting to "his guys".
cardsfan Verified Member Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 I really don't like teh Cardinals.....Because they rebuild without tanking? Or they've averaged 90.5 wins for the last 20 seasons?
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Wow... Tie ballgame! Back to back off Kershaw!
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Wowza... Grand slam!! The Nationals move on!

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Right after that, the shot into the stands, you see streams of blue leaving.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 I don't think many people saw a Nationals-Cardinals NLCS happening. I sure didn't.

It's the Cards, no doubt at all.
