It's been pretty obvious for a while now that Berrios needs to get shut down... looks like an extra day's break isn't doing him any good.

I personally think that the ace moniker that was put on Berrios REALLY early on in his career has been a disservice to him. Despite what some people may think, Berrios has not proven himself, maybe he will, but not in this stage in his career.

I don't know what to say on the one hand it's a couple of 348 foot home runs on the other hand its a couple of 348 foot home runs

Maybe this is the real Berrios as opposed to him being tired. After all, there's been more than a few pitchers in baseball history that have had flashes of brilliance and then turn out to be a disappointment. I don't understand why a couple decent seasons turns a pitcher into the face of the franchise. When has that ever been the case?

They'd be fly balls outs in Target Field? The first one definitely, maybe not the second, but I haven't seen the projected distance on it yet.

Edit: second homer was projected at 438 feet.

I think that it's become pretty obvious that when pitching every 5th day Berrios can't sustain a high level of performance late into the year. The Twins almost have to shut him down at this point and hope a few weeks rest can get him back on track for the playoffs. Also, in future seasons the team needs to treat him like they have Pineda and give him a couple of breaks during the seasons.

HR 2 was long gone out of any park in baseball.

We are in September now. No reason in the world not to rest him up.

Can not understand

He’s going to get plenty of rest. He’s probably only going to throw about 60 pitches tonight.

Low on battery, so let me just say that before Betts came to bat the second time, I said to Sample Size, you can't throw him a first pitch strike again. And, Boom.

Might be taking the early train home, at this rate. :)

Maybe not a few weeks but otherwise I can’t disagree. Berríos, seems to me, is also the type of personality to either pitch through an injury or angrily refuse an offer of a 10-day DL to heal back up to 100% for something.

(Or whatever percent% pitchers are pitching at, this time of year.)

I mean is it going to get to the point in baseball where we have 7 man rotations? What is going on? You can't tell me Walter Johnson wasn't bringing the heat. Those rotations of the past were three or four man rotations and they still played around 150 games a year. Shouldn't, with all these technological advancements, pitchers be getting stronger?

Sure, by pitch count. Maybe people are thinking more of the throwing work every 5 day cycle and the mental preparation and such.

The results obviously aren’t great, but does Berrios’ stuff still look a little flat? I’m not able to watch live tonight.

I would’ve liked a full skip of his turn in the rotation as opposed to one day, so I’m curious to see how he actually looks tonight.

just liked the sound of my post, since the second was 438 I'll just claim dyslexia

Unconvinced it's fatigue. My guess is he tips certain pitches. Too many swings and misses to be the stuff.

I’d only say: hitters are probably better today.

7-man rotations and I’m outta here before you can say “eighth day of rest” :)

not to mention, the Twins haven't won anything yet. They dont have room to needlessly rest anyone, least of all the guy they consider their #1 starter.
