Can someone remind me why Thorpe and Smeltzer haven't been up in the bullpen the last month-plus?

 

At the very least, they're capable of consistently throwing strikes and don't seem to get rattled by the big moment

Not to throw cold water on anything or anyone, but the same thing was true about Andrew Albers in 2013.

Sorry I had to step away from the game for awhile. Had house guests over.  They didn't care that I had to do Game Thread opener tonight or that the Twins were playing the Yankees. They won't be invited back...

 

We're gonna be ok now. I'm feeling the mojo.

Yeah, and that might apply to Smeltzer but Thorpe actually has good stuff.

 

But I'm intrigued by Smeltzer's giant, watermelon-sized, cast iron balls that appear to be immune to anything the team throws at him.

Give me a bullpen just entirely comprised of South Jersey guys. Stashak and Smeltzer don't have the best stuff, but they both just go right after guys. No fear, they just live in the zone and make every batter earn it. Something in the water there, or what?

Give me a bullpen just entirely comprised of South Jersey guys. Stashak and Smeltzer don't have the best stuff, but they both just go right after guys. No fear, they just live in the zone and make every batter earn it. Something in the water there, or what?

Don't forget that Thorpe kinda gives the impression that he's too crazy to actually realize the situation he's in is really, really important.

Tom, they drink cold water using their left hand not right. Scientifically proven to help a breaking ball or two seamer fastball. 

 

It's a Jersey thing.

Baldelli giving up on the game in the 4th and leaving Odorizzi in when he should have been pulled after the 3rd. Should be 7-6 right now, with the Twins in the lead.

Arraez is to the 2nd half what Polanco was to the first! Such a great addition to the offense. Nice to see Polanco heating up again as well.

 

Smeltzer doing a nice job keeping it close. Let's get another one back this inning!

Even though it looks like the Twins might not score in this inning, isn't it somewhat refreshing to actually be playing baseball again? Because the first four innings is not what is commonly referred to as Baseball.

Shoot. Needed to get Arraez around there, because I am guessing the Yankees backend comes in here starting in the 7th. However, I am guessing Chapman is unavailable.
