I’ve been kind of hanging in the lowlights for the past month. A lot of stress-induced games by the Twins have led me to stay away from the online keyboards so I don’t say anything I regret. However, I do have a few questions to start off this series finale.

 

Why do teams have elephants as mascots, but not as the actual name of the team? (Looking at you, Oakland and Alabama)

 

Is it bad that I’ve never heard of half of the pitchers on Oakland’s roster? (Blake Treinen and (gulp) Liam Hendriks are exceptions)

 

Are there actually going to be five good teams in the National League this year? What a disaster!

 

Why was the last game thread named after my dog?

Last night could be one of those season defining losses if the team allows it to happen. We’ve seen it before with other teams.

 

Remember Thome’s walk off against the White Sox in 2010? That happened on August 8th? The White Sox may not of lost the division that day, but we all know that emotionally they did. It was all over for them after that. We can’t let that happen here.

Last night could be one of those season defining losses if the team allows it to happen. We’ve seen it before with other teams.

 

Remember Thome’s walk off against the White Sox in 2010? That happened on August 8th? The White Sox may not of lost the division that day, but we all know that emotionally they did. It was all over for them after that. We can’t let that happen here.

The Twins need to add some big pieces at the deadline to keep morale up. Giving Morin away wasn’t a bad thing in itself, but doing it before Mejia and Magill was not the best idea

The Twins are 1 and 4 on the current home stand. They will need to win today and sweep the Yankees to have a winning homestand. The trade deadline is near and the Twins are pretty quiet, which is normal for them. The Indians will stay hot, they want to win. I wish I could say the same for the Twins. Enjoy the last few days of first place for the 2019 Twins.

Looking at this Oakland team, it reminds me of a bunch of leftovers. Unfortunately for the Twins, sometimes leftovers can be really good, at least until they go bad. Some posters have argued that the Athletics look like a World Series team. I don't see it. I see it as a bunch of overachievers somehow playing ~.500 ball. It's rare (1987) that such teams go on to post-season success. 

 

As for the Twins, is it just bad luck that they can't score with the bases loaded or are they really a bunch of chokers? Time will tell, I guess.

Things are definitely going to happen at the deadline (The 3 Ms in the bullpen were moved to create space). The Indians are playing out of their minds right now, and The Twins are still 3 games ahead. Let’s be a bit more optimistic, OK?

Tell me about your optimism after the Yankee series. No doubt you will still be preaching this hogwash when we are 3 games behind in August. Excuse my harshness here but I take offense when being told how I should think

There are plenty of other threads on this site for you to go down that road!

Hosken is correct, if you want to tally up season long complaints, that’s what the other threads are for. The game threads are for general discussion about the game at hand, or whatever irreverent topics come up. They are not for listing season long gripes. Sure, if Duffey gives up a two run bomb, there’s plenty to carp about, no one is saying criticism isn’t fair game. But the intended atmosphere is supposed to be akin to watching a game with buddies in the bleachers or in a bar. No one enjoys the guy who’s complaining before the game even starts.
