Random musing, offensively the Twins have the 2nd highest ISO in the majors, and the 4th lowest strikeout rate.

Perez is doing a great job.

Of course, it helps the Twins are putting the ball over the fence.

If the Twins are going to compete, they need Perez to put it together.

Early returns seem to say he's got the talent to be a hard throwing lefty in the rotation.

In case you missed it, this evening Twins AAA pitchers gave up 16 hits, 12 walks, and 17 runs.

Held them to 17 runs after all that.

Color me impressed.

Really interesting. And also not drawing walks...one of the lowest BB rates. It’s been pretty obvious that the approach has been to be aggressive and try to drive the first good pitch you see. There has not been much pretense to ‘work counts’ and/or try to build the pitch count for the opposition.

It’s rare that he hits balls hard too any area of the field other than the right-most third. When he does, it’s an accident...takes the same swing at every pitch and tries to pull everything.

Another statement not supported by numbers.

Kepler’s pull rate is 44%. Eddie Rosario is 40%. Brian Dozier is 51%.

2nd highest in-zone swing percentage, 4th highest outside zone swing percentage, combined with the 4th best contact percentage in the ML. They swing early, they swing often, and they make a lot of contact when they do.

Personally, it's a very refreshing combination of traits to watch compared to most of the league.

I don’t want to be in the habit of talking milb in game threads, but of greater concern IMO would be Brent Rooker being taken out of the game in the second inning.

Has nothing to do with pull rate...he doesn’t hit the ball hard to the left of center. Rosario does. His career BABiP speaks for itself at this point.

First part of your comment, talking milb in a game thread sounds great to me as someone that can't and/or doesn't invest much time on our minors typically.

Second part, any word on why Rooker came out?

Trey Mancini looks like a legit hitter, and the rest of the team is in shambles. I feel bad for the guy, as he probably won't get traded for a while.

Der Schlagmeister mit dem Home Run machen!

I'm not sure what you said, but I think I want to hear more of it.

I was just thinking, "Know it when you see it, Baldelli." Good, get May in there. McGill was about to blow the lead completely. May still might do that, but at least he changed pitchers.

Dang how would Kimbrel in the bullpen look right now?

He'd look better on the mound.

Can’t find anything. He finished the second inning in the field...then was pinch hit for to lead of the bottom of the inning. The Red Wings were down 16-0 at the time.

That’s right...they were down by 16 runs before Rooker had a chance to bat.
