DJ Johnson for the Rockies has a Buddy Boshers-like career. 29 years old, couple of stints in the independent league, gets a shot late in the season. Now look at him! Pitching in the NLDS.

Does anybody here have a strong rooting interest among the remaining teams?

For me, my top interest is anti-Yankees. :)

Beyond that, I primarily just want close games/series, although I have some extended family rooting for the Brewers and Rockies so I'll cheer them on too.

I root against the Yankees, the Red Sox (who are the Yankees with beards) and the Dodgers (who are the Yankees of the NL). I hope the Yankees/Red Sox series goes 5 games and that each game is at least 15 innings long so that the winning team's pitching staff is totally burned out and fails spectacularly against either the Astros or Cleveland.

Poor Dozier: Hernandez is just killing it, offense, defense, personality, the media lauds him. Dozier is a passenger. It is the playoffs, but still.

Watching all these highlights is just killing me.  I wish I was watching my team, not someone else's team.

I have tickets for the third Brewers home game and I can't use them because of work (both nights when the game might be held, go figure).  I don't even care very much.

Dear Twins,

I'm sorry you are so sick, and I hope you get better soon.

Sincerely,

Big Dog

I absolutely hate the fact that MLB put Cleveland/Houston in the afternoon for every game.  Verlander vs Kluber is great matchup.  I just wish MLB would pull its head out of its @ss and realize the rest of America does not like Boston/New York.

I can't hate the Red Sox. In fact, I grudgingly admire them. They have turned themselves into everything I think the Twins should be. They refuse to knuckle under to the Yankees, instead standing toe to toe and swapping body blows. They aren't intimidated. They spend money, they look for advantages, they make trades, they draft and develop well.

Rather than searching for reasons they can't, they believe they can.

I'd agree that the Red Sox are the lesser of two evils, but I still can't like them for a couple of reasons. One being last century when ESPN was still relevant and they absolutely demanded that everyone had to pick a side in the Yankee/Sox rivalry, screw that, I'm still allowed to dislike them both. I don't even remember disliking the Red Sox until ESPN said I had to make a choice.

The second reason is the Red Sox complete embracement of some fanciful underdog role simply because they'd only compare themselves to the Yankees and not say the Rays.

But organizational-wise? Yeah, I'd like to copy the Red Sox, I just struggle to get past the phony baloney optics they drape themselves in. Also, everything I just said about the Red Sox also goes for the Cubs.

Anibal Sanchez ........ released by the Twins in the spring .....and starting a playoff game for Atlanta tonight.

Good for him. As I'm sure Detriot would attest to, a 90 MPH junkballing righty probably has a better chance of making it in the NL these days.

No bullpenning needed this afternoon. The adults with real starting pitchers are playing now.

The NL will probably win the World Series now that I say this but it really does look like the top four teams in the the entire league are those that remain in the AL.

I'd agree, but that could be because it's just so hard to wrap my mind around the idea that Milwaukee could possibly be a top team.

I'm happy for them and I hope everyone over here in the next yard over can see it can be done, but that Brewers rotation just doesn't look very ferocious, and that's the first place my eyes go when I look at playoff teams.

I think the Dodgers compare pretty well on paper to the AL squads. 102 Pythag wins this year, a rotation led by Ryu, Kershaw, and Buehler, deep lineup/bench, etc.

Former Twin Ryan Pressly retired all 5 batters he faced for Houston today, with 2 K's.

Though his first pitch was wild and allowed a runner to score from third. He did look really good after that. Happy for him.

A lot of former Twin action last night!

Aaron Hicks had a hit and a walk before exiting in the 4th inning due to hamstring tightness. He hopes to play in game 2 today.

Lance Lynn pitched 2 innings scoreless relief.

Eduardo Nunez was 0-for-4.

Kurt Suzuki was 0-for-3 as the Braves got shut out again. (Suzuki also appeared in game 1 as a pinch hitter and went 0-for-1.)

Pseudo-former-Twin Anibal Sanchez gave up 3 runs in 4.2 IP.

Andrew Miller's offseason is going to be interesting... Heading into his age 34 season, missed 80+ games this season with multiple injuries, and continues to struggle in the playoffs.
