ESPN article on the Delmon Young trade tree

I think the AJ Pierzinkski trade tree is pretty good headlined by

Joe Nathan

Francisco Liriano

Eduardo Escobar

...and three guys in A ball.

It would be interesting to add up all the WAR from that trade. I'm guessing it's pretty good. AJ didn't flame out like Delmon and did produce a ring for Chicago.

Between the Johan Santana and Delmon Young trades Bill Smith really had a bad start to his tenure as GM.

The Johan trade tree is almost too painful to chart out. it flamed out with Jim Hoey, I believe... But the original trade produced Gogo if only we'd a) been more patient or B) been better at developing players, depending on which half of total system failure you want to assign more blame to.

Of course it leads back to Delmon Young and Duensing (whom should have been included in every trade made when he was on the team).

I didn't even think about that. The one guy that was always "the sweetener" ends up being the last chance to keep it going.

Of course all the Yankees got out of the Knoblauch trade was two championships.

I figure they’re pleased.

Three, actually (1998, 1999, and 2000). Although of course Knoblauch contributed more to the first two. Interestingly, he was still starting (in LF) when they lost the WS in 2001 too.

Anyone we could deal to generate a return like that? Buxton or Sano? Berrios? Rosario?

I'm not sure but I'd guess Berrios would be our top value trade chip at the moment.

He'd have to bring back significantly more than Chris Archer, right? Especially with the escalating luxury tax penalties? A bidding war between big spenders could escalate pretty rapidly I'd think.

I'd value Berrios over Archer so yeah but I'm not sure about "significantly".

In my opinion... There seems to be "lessening" of the willingness to pay the prices these days and therefore will limit how much you can get, which will limit you short of "significant".

In my opinion... As long as the Phillies, Braves, Astros, Cubs can turn things around as quickly they have... teams are going to hang on to those prospects.

Well, someone has to populate MLB teams with quality CFs, might as well be the Twins.... Gomez, Hicks, Revere (notably less quality), and might as well throw Buxton on the trash heap as well, so I can watch him win championships for someone.
