So, umpire sees enough to make the Balk call...emphatically instructs runners to move up a base...and then realizes Shields might have stepped off first

Once that call is made show a little professionalism and stick by your call...when argument ensues, use the time honored reply..."I may have missed that one coach, but that's what I saw and called"

The RIGHT call was the original call...by switching his decision he's subject to challenge on every call

Just DUMB

The right call is never the wrong call, even if it is called wrong and the pompous umpire wants it to be right. Sticking up for it just makes him look even more pathetic, I think. If the original call is wrong, I hope it is fixed, even if it is against my chosen team. I hate wrongs calls being converted to right by some stupid irresponsible outdated rule, just because an umpire called it incorrectly.

Triple A catcher Astudillo was named International league All-Star. I really don't know why they still keep Bobby Wilson now. Sawyer, the other catcher in Triple A is also hitting over .300. They should just release Motter and Wilson and call both of them up. Astudillo can play both IF and OF as well.

Aw come on, that is just too simple for the sabrmatic mindset.

See, this, to me, is just unfathomable.

Is Bobby's D just so great, and so much better than Astudillo's, that his complete lack of a bat compensates for it? I could kind of understand it for a while, because Romero was up, and Wilson knew him from Roch. But, come on...

And don't get me started on John Hicks again...

So if a manager doesn't get ejected for arguing a call that the rule book says is an automatic ejection because he successfully argues his point, is there actually any such thing as an automatic ejection?

Balk should be reversed, manager should still get tossed.

The Sox should send the Twins thank you cards for increasing the trade value of Mr. Shields.

Begrudgingly, I'll agree with you.

Another way to think of it -- I don't know whether that call is reviewable, but if it is, it clearly would have been overturned after looking at the replay. In this case, they saved a minute or so by correcting it on the field.

So this happened earlier and I've been dumbfounded for the last half hour watching this game...

Silly me for being amazed as Dozier takes a fastball?? pretty much center-cut for strike 3, followed by Morny saying how Grossman always gives a good long, grind it out AB as rOBby flails at a blatantly flat slow-pitch offering from Big Game James to finish off his 3 pitch K

Looking for anything else to watch, including charting the spin rate of the full-moon, I switch to CWS just in time to see #1 pick Larnach step in to the box

At least he hits the ball hard each AB and has a chance to drive in a run....unfortunately, the veteran leadership of the Twins offense must have reached out to him already...flailing K that even Sano would be proud of ends that AB

Couple positives from this:

1) writing this up has kept me from flipping back to Twins game

2) there's always 2023 to look forward to

3) We need to start the "Rush for Rutschman"

The next Brian Harper with his contact rate! I'd like to see him get a chance to see how it plays out at this level.

A thank you card IS the trade value of Mr Shields.

Except Astudillo hasn’t been playing catcher for some time now. He’s been playing 3rd base. And we can assume there’s a reason for that.

So would I!

I agree...my point is don't make stuff up in the first place and once you do own it

So you're saying if he switched spots with Wilson, Garver would become the Twins top defensive catcher?

Man, that would make gamethreads even more hilarious.

3 catchers in AAA, that's why. Rupp and Sawyer both need some playing time and Astudillo is the only one who can play other positions and they need his bat in the lineup.

Plenty of time from August 1st to end of season...makes too much sense right now

True. I heard they also gave him some time in the OF. I'm all for flexibility. But doesn't mean he can't catch, if called up.

Please, God. Wilson can't hit worth a durn, and Garver looks like he's always breaking in a new glove back there.

Heh.... that sounds like it's "torn from today's headlines..."

Well, I'm baffled at what happened out there, but that pretty much sums up the season so far.  I get why Molly got tossed.  The question that he should have to the commish is what rules are being upheld and which ones aren't?  That would be nice to know since the Twins missed that memo.  The next question is what did Glynn do to get tossed?  Perhaps the third base ump felt as if he wasn't being included in the game and needed to get some recognition.  Dunno, but that was a first.  No calls made all night except to toss the third base coach.  Sigh...I'm calling the season boys (and girls).  This season is officially over with tonight's loss.  Not because we are 9 back or whatever.  Rather, because of how we've gotten here.  It's been a series of bad luck, bad baseball, and bad attitude.  Good grief!  Good luck! and Good night.

Maybe...but he’s been playing 3rd base pretty exclusively. It’s THE position where teams most hate to compromise on defense...not just the Twins. But I agree that we’ve reached a point in the season where I’d like to just see Garver work on it...or see if someone like Astudillo would be viable.

Mauer continues to destroy the ball this evening. Those have got to be the four weakest contacts I've seen from him.

It's like Mauer can't really see the ball well again.... and he's not talking.

I keep hearing that this team still has a chance, and I'm not sure if I'm even living on the same planet as people who think that.

It's been over for weeks.
