ashbury Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 I would definitely be more of a fan of trotting mejia out instead of phil. Too bad they're choosing starters by contract.Has it been announced that Hughes is being activated? I hadn't seen it.
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Can't speak to today, but Reed was reportedly out yesterday with strep throat. Now that I think of it, Gibby kinda pitched the 5th like he had something constricting his neck today, as well.I have heard that it's awfully difficult to pitch when your hands are otherwise occupied.
Doubles Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Author Posted April 11, 2018 I thought the game was Dabgo...You are hereby correct!
youngtwinsfan Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Who would you have gone with?I would say go with Reed. Very high leverage situation, and he's been the best so far in my mind. I know its early in the game, but I would feel more comfortable with the other guys starting a new inning with no one on.
ashbury Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 I think Hildy's ticket to Rochester was just printed out at Twins headquarters.

How did they go from "this BP is going to be awesome" to "we only trust one or two guys" so fast?
TFRazor Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 I wish we could get him to chase one of those first-pitch, belt-high fastballs from time to time. That I can agree with. Also, what's the hit count on Mauer?
ashbury Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Morrison puts in his bid for a Gold Glove award at 1B. As expected.
gocgo Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 JT who now? Didn't need him. They are just teeing off on Hildy. Gotta go get him.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Something about a 2 strike pitch?
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Hildy does not seem right, even in ST. I wonder if a stint to the 10 day DL would help him.
Doubles Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Author Posted April 11, 2018 This outing is doing nothing to dissuade Hildy concern, holy moly.
gocgo Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 They are just teeing off on Hildy. Gotta go get him.but what do I know?
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Something about a 2 strike pitch?something else about bullpen?
TFRazor Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 JT who now? Didn't need him. To be fair, while Chargois has looked good, he's only faced 12 batters. Yeah he's gotten them all out but all it takes is one dirty inning and he's not going to be smelling of roses as much. I really think part of the concern on the Twins part was just has skill at staying hurt. I call it a skill because he sure practiced it a lot.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 You'd think with the way Hildenberger was pitching, they wouldn't have used him in a high leverage situation. That 8 run inning may not be enough...
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 I would not be surprised if it's a position player sent down when they activate a 5th starter. Don't get too comfy, LaMarre.

I really think part of the concern on the Twins part was just has skill at staying hurt. I call it a skill because he sure practiced it a lot.True, but if he's good enough to get a look with a team coming off of 104 wins with no shortage of arms, he could've at least warranted use of his last option year with this squad. It could very easily have turned out to be more of the same, but could it really be a whole lot worse than what Hildy's providing or eating up 40-man and 25-man spots on a guy that that has to be completely hidden from existence? Here's hoping it works out for all parties and not just one or the other.

jud6312 Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Man, had I just skimmed the box score after work today I would've thought Hildy did alright today. Only 1 run, in line for the win. Just glad I'm not home watching this.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Where's the Rule 5 guy when you need him? We've seen time and time again Molly will fall back on the veteran over a rookie. He clearly gained a lot of trust in Hildy last season. I wouldn't trust Kinley against the Astros lineup.
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Taking it that Reed is unavailable again today?
TFRazor Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 This is one situation where I really wish they would've made an attempt to bring Kintzler back. He would've looked good coming out of the pen and getting a GB double play on his first throw.
gocgo Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Hildy's game is built on deception. Nothing wrong with that...until you stop fooling people. If you watch the swings, batters are swinging with confidence.
