drjim Provisional Member Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 This is a pleasant surprise: This one was obvious: Will be interesting if there is another catcher. Otherwise they can probably make due for the immediate future with these 2-3 guys. Keep the other guys getting reps, and most adds will be people coming off the DL anyways.
drjim Provisional Member Posted August 31, 2017 Author Posted August 31, 2017 Realize the first tweet doesn't make it clear that Niko Goodrum is on his way.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Good luck to Goodrum. I wonder who's spot he took on the 40 man roster?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Good luck to Goodrum and Turley. I hope they try Turley as a RP.....
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Good luck to Goodrum. I wonder who's spot he took on the 40 man roster? I wonder if Santiago can be placed on the 60 day DL? Goodrum's an interesting add, I don't think he's anything more than a fringe bench player but at least they're giving him a cup of coffee after sticking around in the organization for so long. I also expect to see Boshers up, Slegers, and possibly Palka. Not sure if they'll add any more non-40 man guys.
Richie the Rally Goat Community Moderator Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Goodrum has played all over the diamond for Rochester. Potential heir apparent to Escobar?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Goodrum has played all over the diamond for Rochester. Potential heir apparent to Escobar? Goodrum strikes me as DanSan, someone they want to succeed, but isn't super likely, based on history. Why would they get rid of Escobar, since we know he can play 2B, SS, 3B and sort of hit at the MLB level? I just don't get it.

Kind of a lot for a utility player. I would rather keep Escobar, he's a good utility player. Just trying to predict

Rosterman Verified Member Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Unless Santiago has a set-back, he won't go on the 60-man. There is Turley love here. But no Boshers? Is Rochester still in the playoff hunt? Goodrum replaces Vielma, perhaps? Expect to see Palka AND Slegers up, too. But that might be it.
Shaitan Verified Member Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Not sure if they'll add any more non-40 man guys. I doubt it, unless they're pending minor league free agents where they don't really have to worry about option years. But I'm basing that on the past 20 years under a different regime. I'd think Goodrum, Recker, and those types of 26th-man players could be added since they're only like to the be back next year on new MiLB free agent deals.
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Mejia can come back next week, take Gees spot in the rotation and maybe Perkins spot on the playoff 25 man roster if that's permitted under the rules. No 25 man roster next week. If one is on the 40-man roster, they can be up. The Twins conceptually can have 40 players in September.
caninatl04 Verified Member Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Goodrum makes sense because we need a RH bat badly, even worse if Buxton has to go on the DL. He can be a RH DH instead of Vargas when Garver catches. this probably also means that the FO wasn't able to find a veteran RH bat in trade or waivers. And yet the Indians were able to: twice!
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 And yet the Indians were able to: twice! And the Angels were able to get a .900 OPS one for the equivalent of the guy we got for Kintzler. I hope the Tigers said they wouldn't trade him in division, or that was a big whiff.
Shaitan Verified Member Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Think we'll see Tonkin? If not, I assume he's done as a Twin.

IMO he is the best candidate to take off the 40 man to make room. Of course, an injury might change plans. He's pitched well in AAA this year. I think he could still be a serviceable MLB reliever. At least against RHB.

yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Yeah, that was phrased poorly. Tonkin is not on the 40 man roster. Therefore, someone would need to come off to make room. Speculating that the most reasonable candidate in that instance would be Glen Perkins. I still think bringing up Anthony Recker would be a higher priority. Just don't feel comfortable with the catching situation right now. It actually might benefit Tonkin to not come up. As I said, he's done well in AAA. If he stays down, those are the numbers future employers will look at, because they are the most recent. If he comes up and bombs...
