I don't have a ton of confidence in Gibson, but I kind of have a bad feeling about going to the pen...

Gibson has to be frustrating to everyone not just Gibby himself. 

 

Molitor is trying to give him a major league job and Gibson keeps not taking the offer. 

 

I assume Molitor is an advocate for Gibson and when you go against the grain while advocating... poor performance is going to cause a stronger reaction to it. 

 

Bottom Line: It will be much harder to go back to the table and say... "I think Gibson is coming around".

 

Gibson is slipping out of the majors before our eyes. 

 

The interesting thing about Gibson is that except for his poor walk rate, his metrics at least superficially say that he's not pitching much worse than when he was effective.  He's allowing a much higher batting average on balls in play and his strand rate is worse, but both should theoretically normalize somewhat, and other numbers like his K rate are right on.

 

And then you watch him pitch, and you can see how much more often hitters tee up and tattoo the ball. His home run rate alone is nearly double what it was at his best. At this point he's a cross between the worst version of Kevin Slowey and Charlie Brown when he gets his clothes knocked off by a line drive.

I'm firmly convinced Kyle Gibson made a deal with the devil at some point. That's the only explanation I have for how he is in line to earn a fourth win with an ERA close to seven.
