GP830 Verified Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Seems weird to DFA a flamethrower (a position of need) for slick short stop. I guess it's possible he's the new starting SS? And also, if he's not the starter-- we still have DanSan, which is also funny. Headscratcher.
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Still having DanSan is not funny!
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 This should have been the type of waiver wire claim to end the D Santana era....
bluechipper Provisional Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Great, a slightly younger version of Pedro Florimon. I'm also confused by this move.
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 This should have been the type of waiver wire claim to end the D Santana era.... As I stated in the Park thread, this is basically a running gag at this point.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Well, a slick fielding (is he?) SS would be a nice addition to the bench, especially if he can play some 3B occasionally. No comment on DanSan....sigh.
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Not sure what to make of this other than it started another wheel turning.

No comment on DanSan....sigh. He has to be somewhat of a slick fielder in order to stick on a 40 man roster hitting at a .605 OPS clip. Depth is nice.... And removing Light from the 40 man isn't a big loss. I don't know... Just trying to say something positive.
SydneyTwinsFan Verified Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Ugh. I'd rather give Vielma a shot.
ppearson50 Provisional Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Offseason moves so far. Pitch framing catcher Castro. Rule 5 flier Haley. No bat good glove waiver claim SS Adrianza. And Matt Belise, older relief pitcher.
Lee-The-Twins-Fan Provisional Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Yes - it's another headscratcher from the FO. I kind of like Ehire Adrianza though; he really raked in AAA in 2015. I'm not so sure about his defensive skills. I cannot argue with DFA of Lat Light - he may be a flamethrower, but he was pretty ineffective as a pitcher last year at the MLB level.
GP830 Verified Member Posted February 6, 2017 Author Posted February 6, 2017 Now I wonder if there's a deal in the works to move Polanco.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Now I wonder if there's a deal in the works to move Polanco. That would disappoint me. Buxton and Sano will be here for a few more years......and they aren't particularly likely to make the playoffs this year.....I'd like them to building toward improvement this year, legit WC contenders next year, legit playoff contenders the following year, and for the next several years after that. Losing Polanco would seem to make that less likely, as it is hard to see what you can get for him that is worth trading for, if no one would trade for Dozier....
GP830 Verified Member Posted February 6, 2017 Author Posted February 6, 2017 Here's an interesting piece from a Giants blog about him: http://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2016/3/30/11334052/sf-giants-2016-roster-ehire-adrianza
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 The Park move makes more sense now. The front office essentially swapped Light for Belisle and Park for Adrianza. It's nothing to get excited about but at least they're thinking about defense a little bit. And when your starting SS looks to be Jorge Polanco, a little defensive insurance isn't the worst idea.

Also, if they acquire a pitcher for him then there's a spot in the pen open with Light's departure. Still-- why not Tonkin?

I think it's more likely this guy is the backup infielder, and Escobar is in trouble.....which seems odd to me.
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 The Abad trade becomes worthless, not that it had much hope anyway. How about the improvement to the pitching staff this off season?

rukavina Provisional Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Makes me wonder if there is some sort of GM bingo going on. "I need Adrianza and Colabello to win..." This is the middle earth of AAAA players.

Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 I am not looking forward to the next 5 months, during which every single person in the world will be pronouncing his name differently.
GP830 Verified Member Posted February 6, 2017 Author Posted February 6, 2017 The Abad trade becomes worthless, not that it had much hope anyway. How about the improvement to the pitching staff this off season?Yes- but Light's ceiling and velocity outweigh Tonkin's value. So it's giving up on potential in favor of a guy who everyone is ready to see go.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 I am not looking forward to the next 5 months, during which every single person in the world will be pronouncing his name differently. 100% chance our phones will auto-correct Adrianza to Adrian or Ariana.
ashbury Verified Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Ugh. I'd rather give Vielma a shot.Barring some news out of spring training camp, Vielma's bat is not ready. It may never be ready, but he won't turn 23 until during the season, so he deserves more seasoning. I do want to watch him for signs that I've underestimated him.
Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Ehire? Is this guy a shortstop or an online job board? Am I right, people?!
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 100% chance our phones will auto-correct Adrianza to Adrian or Ariana. given your tastes, I'm guessing Ariana....as long as it comes with music also, you'll be fine.
ashbury Verified Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 I kind of like Ehire Adrianza though; he really raked in AAA in 2015.PCL numbers for hitters always make me nervous.
