3 proposals that could pry Dozier away from the Twins

The article says 12 x revenue minus expenses....

Good catch.  I knew I must have missed something.  However, I still don't think they will need to dump salary to satisfy MLB.   The luxury tax level going up will drop their tax substantially.  Crawford's contract expires at the end of 2017.  Apparently Maeda's posting fee was structured over two years.   Either's contract has a 2.5M buyout in 2018 so that's another $15M reduction. $10.65M for Jansen is also off the books.

I doubt that they are going to be forced to make a deal in order to dump payroll.. They just are not going to be able to play in free agency this year.   Regardless, Dozier's relatively low cost should help make him a more attractive acquisition.

Another national site imagined a Dozier-to-Dodgers deal over the weekend:

http://m.mlb.com/news/article/209527456/5-hypothetical-black-friday-trades/

"Twins trade 2B Brian Dozier to the Dodgers for RHPs Jose De Leon, Yadier Alvarez and Jordan Sheffield."

Seriously? I would take that in a heartbeat as well.

Fangraphs has Alvarez as the Dodgers #1 prospect (I'd say he's #2 behind Bellinger),  DeLeon as #4 and Sheffield as #10.  Again, it's fantasy that Dozier is worth 2 top 4 prospects and another in the top 10 in any farm system , much less a really good one like the Dodgers'.

Obviously you have to throw in Brian Duensing Buddy Boshers or Pat Light to sweeten the deal.

I'd say this one is more do-able than the other.  Still don't think it would be for Dozier straight up.

I am starting to think the Brian Dozier market is surprisingly strong - our return may end up being better than any of us would have thought a couple months ago. I doubt Castrovince, a national guy with a good reputation, would float something that would be completely out of line with what the market is dictating.

Consider me cautiously optimistic....

interesting article.  Here.  Discusses potential trades of Dozier and others to the Dodgers, Nats and Rays (of all teams.)

I love what they proposed for the Dodgers:

Twins trade: Dozier, P Glen Perkins, P Hector Santiago
Dodgers trade: 1B/OF Cody Bellinger, P Jose De Leon, P Chase De Jong, P Ross Stripling, IF Omar Estevez

Is there any Twins' fan who would not do that in a heartbeat?

All 3 trades are heavily in the Twins' favor IMHO, but interesting read anyways...

I drool every time I ready this one.

1. Bellinger wouldn't be blocked in Minnesota

2. Why would the Dodgers want anything to do with Perkins and/or Santiago?

I'm a bit surprised we don't hear more about Ervin. I know Sale is going to set the market, but in that weak of a FA market, I'd have to think that there would be some sizable demand for Santana.

Not sure about Perk, but I could see Santiago being a bit of a fill in given his year to year status and the opening of a rotation spot. I could also see them insisting we pick up a big contract like Puig in that situation too.  I'd be all for that given his lack of value at the moment.

I think national media members probably have a similar bias as fans do, just for different reasons. It is harder to speculate about trade packages around lower tier prospects, and such suggestions don't get much attention either. I'd guess every national writer regularly speculates about top prospects getting dealt when few actually ever get moved.

I'd guess team fans, while overrating their own players/prospects and also wishing and hoping for the best return, also often fall into this trap. It is just a lot harder and less "sexy" to conjure up a trade package that doesn't include elite prospects.

While the Dozier talk is fun, ai suspect that nothing remotely concrete has been discussed, leaving fans and the media to pretty much aim for the sky. Especially when they are trying to predict the return on a trade that isn't terribly likely to happen anyway -- almost by definition, a team may have to "overpay" just to conceive of getting a deal done.

I really like Dozier and honestly if he was traded there would be very little reason to even watch this 103 loss team this season.

With that said, if anyone offers you two legit pitching prospects you HAVE to take it in a heartbeat.

The pitching throughout the org is a disaster right now, they need to get as many arms as possible.

Don't target 1B or OF

This should probably be a different thread but I suspect that we haven't heard much on him for a few reasons.  First, the Twins might not be moving him at all.  Second, they are probably waiting for the market to get set, and third, they will probably have discussions about him at the winter meetings next week.
