Berrios has a no-no thru 5

Berrios has a no hitter going no thru 5 innings against Pawtucket.  One walk, seven strikeouts. 68 pitches.  Wings up 3-0.  He must be trying hard to keep up with Meyer's hot start!

Gave up a couple singes in the 6th but got a double play to get out of it.

Thanks for the instant jinx. Impressive. :)

How much longer is Tommy's leash?

I gotta think Ryan is going to want to promote both Berrios and Meyer fairly soon.  One more bad start might be it.

With Meyer seeming to have put last year behind him, Berrios continuing to do his thing, and hopefully Duffey developing a better change up, it seems as though all of the Twins current starters should be on the trading block.

While yes, we as fans would probably like to see the likes of Nolasco and Milone be the ones to go, I think if you can get a better return for Santana, Gibson, or Hughes the Twins shouldn't be shy about pulling the trigger. Can TR somehow pull off a Shark for Russell or Feldman for Arrieta type of deal?

Nolasco has practically been lights out.  I don't want him to get traded, want him to continue doing what he is doing.   Santana (the older one with the longest contract of the bunch) should go second.  Of course Milone should had been out last night.  Pitching same day as Meyer, so that one is plug and play.

Lights out? I guess we'll see how today goes, but I would say he had one very good start, and a pretty poor one.

I have less faith in Hughes and his 90 MPH heater continuing to be a functional member of the rotation. His curve has always been subpar. A 90 MPH heater just isn't going to play well if he doesn't have a breaking pitch.

I think Nolasco, Hughes and Santana will hard to move because of the unwise long term contracts given to them, but if I was able to pick one, I'd try to get rid of Hughes before he blows up.

Berrios has a 1.06 ERA and has allowed only 8 hits in 17 innings and has 20 k's! I hope he goes for an ERA under 1.

Yup - 7 innings today with no runs and only 2 singles.  Very nice to see.

Oh yeah in addition to getting rid of Nolasco and Milone I'd trade Gibson as well. Gibson is a dime a dozen, I'm sure Gonsalves, Stewart, Thorpe, or Jay could compete for the third starter opening by next year

He should be on the plane with Terry Ryan back to Minneapolis.  He can take Milone's next start.  I still have Berrios ahead of Meyer in the call-up race

After today's game I agree. Looking at Berrios' performance today and seeing how he has done in the past, I think he is going to get his ERA under 1 and look every part of an ace.

I'm not sure who I have first... Probably Berrios but it's a much more difficult decision than I thought it'd be going into the season.

It's *really nice* to have this conversation at all.

Berrios is ready... Arguably was ready right out of spring training with the exception of dealing with nerves early on. There's not much else he needs to prove in AAA IMO.

If I hear Dick/Bert try to justify keeping the current starters based on ERA, experience or competitiveness, my TV might get busted.

If these vets don't produce top of the rotation stuff, the resentment of them blocking the prospects is going to get ugly.

From me that is. I wouldn't want to speak for you folks.

I'd have parted ways with Milone this offseason, trading him for a prospect, signing Darren O'Day, and then sticking May in the rotation... but that's me.  I think Tommy has to be the one on the chopping block, but with Meyer, Duffey, and Berrios in AAA, only one will get the call, and will probably be Meyer or Duffey given that they are on the 40 man.

As for Alex, 3 good starts is great, but I personally want to see this continue for a couple months before I send someone else packing.

You gotta be kidding me! When Twins Daily goes BAD!

Seriously, how in the world does this get posted? Can we get a programmer/poster to build in a block for the site for any  posts that screw with karma?

Jose just turned in another amazing start today, only allowing 2 hits in 7 shutout innings. He only walked one and struck out 7. Its pretty clear that this guy needs to be called up immediately. He has shown that he can dominate at every level. I say we give him a call up and give him a spot start just to see what he can do. I think he would be an upgrade over Milone

Well....

Milone would be the obvious choice at this point, but he has only thrown 15 innings. He got a spot in the starting roation, now we have to give him a little more time, a little more rope.

If he hangs himself, well that's how it works in MLB. Always has, always will.

I, too, am anxious to see Berrios. I suspect we won't have to wait much longer.

My only concern is with the 1.30 WHIP Berrios had going into today. That is unlikely to get better in MLB and can lead to a lot of runs. Milone's current WHIP is 1.37. Meyer's WHIP is 0.865.

I don't believe a move will be made before Milone gets another start. We'll see how the numbers change.

Remember, if Meyer has finally found himself that would really be special. He has more raw talent than anyone we've had since Johan Santana. (IMHO)
