The galling thing about all this gross mismanagement is that without it, this team could be 49-40 right now.

We could have the 1st or 2nd best record in the American league and still some people wouldnt be happy......................OH!!! We do??? Wow!!!!

I forget the reward for having an above average record at the all-star break.

But you forgot what it feels like to be 12 games out and waiting for the Viki.......Timber......i mean the Wild season to start???? Remember we are not that good this yr, or not suppose to be, so someone is pulling the correct strings, because if things were being done by average management we would win 75 games, at least that is what all the prognosticators said.

1st or 2nd best records at the moment are nice, but pretty meaningless in the big picture.

Come late Septemer in a close playoff race,  if the Twins either

barely miss the playoffs,

barely miss the AL Central title, or-

barely miss gaining home advantage by one, or a few games...

I have a feeling certain people won't be doing much whooping, or mocking others who understand the reasons for maximizing the use of the talent at hand... they'll be crying , gnashing their teeth, and pointing fickle fingers of blame.  Kind of surprising how forgetful people are of how important home field advantage was to the Twins in their World Series runs.

You can say this for every single team in baseball, even St Louis.......mistakes are made by every team at some point, I am just thankful we have competent leadership, i prefer that over some of the what have you done for me lately commentary.........I have learned to TRY(i still do too) not to be so quick to criticize.........as i have seen this yr, MOST of the moves people have clamored for have come to fruition with the prospects especially........... just not fast enough or early enough for most people..............I have been happily surprised when they have tried something and it didnt work they have retried and reworked to make the team better.........it may come crashing down, mostly because we are not that good, not because we are making the wrong moves, altho all moves that dont turn out will be second guessed..................that is the nature of sports. We all want to be GM :)

I should have just looked it up :) LOL , not a Trekkie here.

Neither am I. But being a Trekker, I chuckled at the reference.

Pretty sure one can both be happy with the teams performance and quibble with some decisions.

Thank god too....or we might as well shut TwinsDaily down until the next rebuild.

I suppose it depends on who "the others who understand" are...  My guess is that not one poster on here will have been right about every move for the whole year.  My own GMing would show me to be wrong about Hicks, Santana, Arcia, and Pelfrey, but right about Milone, Hughes, Gibson, and Hunter.  Everyone will have some things to brag about, and to complain about.   If anyone wants to criticize the Twins for apparently not "maximizing" the talent, they should also laud the Twins for having the options available which has allowed them to be wrong about Stauffer, Tonkin, Nolasco and Arcia and still be 10 over .500.  Whether or not we're wrong about May, at present, we have the depth to be wrong, which is a good thing.

As for May, I did look into May's solid xFIP and FIP.  His FIP is brought down by a probably unsustainable top 15 in baseball HR/FB.  His xFIP which uses league avg. for HR/FB is held down by his probably unsustainable 1.9 BB/9ip.  I would guess that his FIP with his career avg. walks would be pretty darn close to his current ERA.  IF his walk and HR rates aren't sustainable, then the Twins probably made the right move and maybe saved us a couple of those games come the end of the year!

Jham if i did nothing other than made you take a closer look at advanced metrics today.... I feel like the world is a better place. Now, the bb/9 thing...

I personally think there is a quibble and then there is threatening to lose your s or having your mind boggled by something this minor, especially since they have been playing such great ball since the decision was made.

Right!  I think I liked it better being a lurker.  I could just wait for others to look up stats.  I'll admit advanced stats definitely add to my enjoyment of the game.  That's the great thing about baseball.  There are an endless number of angles to analyze and enjoy whether your a numbers guy or an eye-test guy!

The Twins are on pace for 89 wins, that likely won't put them in the top 2 in the AL, but it SHOULD be enough for a wild card spot, however the margin of error is relatively small. Even the more reason to be critical of the bullpen moving forward.

I for one am thrilled, but I want to see this team continue to improve and not only make the playoffs but make a run at winning the whole thing.

Yep.  The wild card format is a crazy gimmick, heavily reliant on luck and a shut down ace-  just to get to the next round where the odds are stacked against you, and now you've used up nope of your best pitcher's starts just to get to that round.

The Twins are now in a position to make a decent and respectable run at the whole thing, why not maximize the chances of getting there?

. And the lineup, overall, looks pretty solid. Nothing truly exciting, but a fun groups of guys

Also, Dozier has the most XBH of anyone in the AL, I don't know how you get more exciting then that.

Right cuz May in the bullpen has anything to do with that. There is way too much snide lecturing of people venting their concerns and frustrations. Having a winning record isn't a golden ticket of doing everything right.

If they have a plan, Molitor is not a good communicator, since he pretty much says they have no plan.....

I heard Molitor on one of his radio shows yesterday state that he'd like to get May into more high leverage situations. I'm sure Molitor and the Twins have a plan, they've probably shared it with May, but not with us peons.

It's a fun and interesting time in Twins land. Never thought we would be where we are at All-Star break. And the lineup, overall, looks pretty solid. Nothing truly exciting, but a fun groups of guys who are just playing the game well behind a rotation that is keeping us in the games.

This   deserves more than a like!!!!    Where can I find a triple thumbs up icon??!!   Nine games over .500 is a lot more fun than nine games under .500!!!!

And neither is it of doing everything wrong.

Everyone, let's stop the 'snide lecturing' all around and keep on topic. Let's give each other a little leeway and not assume anyone meant anything offensive then jump on it. Just the facts, ma'am. Well, facts, opinion, conjecture, passionate discussion ... but let's try to not make it personal or take it personal and get side-tracked.

Thanks.

I'm much more concerned that if they keep winning a significant amount of posters are going to run out of things to talk about.

#plan

Not to worry doc, after following TD for a couple of years you realize that some people are never happy, when the Twins were winning division titles, with a chance to goto the World Series, that still wasn't good enough, so if the Twins would happen to win 10 games in a row there would still be nit-pickers.

Stop it. Now. Everyone. Back on topic.

:)  A part of the job that I don't think Molitor was ready for.  I hope and pray he stays away from "social" media.
