So, ya, this lays it out pretty well.....work, value, being needed.

I'm going to miss this man, assuming he doesn't outlive me!*

*and no, he's not perfect. No one is.

That's a good article.  His central point is what matters and should hopefully be a takeaway for everyone across all spectrums of this - how do we become less divided and more connected?  Happiness comes from our relationships with others and that seems to be waning for a variety of reasons, even as our world gets smaller.

My alternatives are The Day After, Failsafe, Doctor Strangelove, and Wargames. Better?

Don't forget On The Beach. Damned vacuum tubes!

DEMOCRATS AIN'T GOT NO JOBS SO THEY ALREADY VOTED ARGH BLARGH HERP DERP

Funny, I was just thinking that it meant Democrats perhaps just aren't procrastinators. I got up early to vote.

On a side note does anyone else feel guilty waiting in line and making presumptions about who your line-mates are going to vote for based on physical appearance alone? Or am I the only one who does that?

Timed it so there wasn't a line. I did wear my pub crawl shirt to distract people into instead thinking "Why does that guy have a paper bag over his head?"

Nobody bothered me.

Well, this is likely to sound terribly racist of me ... but I had a wait when I voted over two weeks ago. So there I sat with many others waiting to vote. When I surveyed the room I realized I was the only caucasian there. While one can never be certain of how a certain demographic will vote, I felt fairly certain there weren't many in the room voting for Trump. Then had a nice conversation with the woman sitting next to me about life and how we both just wanted this over.

Um ... are you suggesting that was my reaction? It wasn't. It was expected considering the ward I live in in the city I live in. What I was saying was that I felt comfortable knowing that those around were likely voting as I was, but looking at the demographic, I made a generalized statement.

I'm suggesting that I was expecting to find civil political discourse in this thread but instead I found shocking racism- from you. That was mfw.

But I like your suggestion too, thanks! It could work either way really.

Sounds like you were being a good neighbor. As far as I know, people aren't punished for thoughts. If they were, we'd all be out in the woodshed.

Oh, no ... not me ... my thoughts are as pure as the driven snow! ;)

I was in line behind an overweight, slovenly middle-aged guy who almost certainly never in his life had much luck with women, so my thoughts immediately were that he was surely voting Trump. That doesn't make me a racist but some kind of prejudiced certainly.

Then I thought if I were in a movie the guy would turn out to be an eloquent and open-minded literary and sociology expert who would start dropping Susan B. Anthony quotes and defy my unfair expectations.

Odd, I don't remember seeing you behind me.

Well it took an hour, but the civic duty is complete. Don't think my vote is going to matter much on the national scale considering the state I live in.

There was a fairly important proposition to vote on locally... $750 million to build on existing road infrastructure to alleviate the traffic problems here.. $5 a month tax sounds well worth the attempt.

Holy crap....he's leading in far more swing states than I'm comfortable with.

Also, with as close as these states are, there is no way this ordeal is over tonight.
