stringer bell Verified Member Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Checked 538 a few minutes ago and saw that Hill seems to be moving up in the odds from 63-64% to now 68-69%. It seems that Trump has used all his ammo and that the country is going to go with her. However, I am disappointed to see that the same 538 is giving the Democrats less than 50-50 odds to take over the Senate. I have been of the opinion that the Supreme Court obstruction in and of itself should be enough to punish the Senate GOP, but at least according to Silver, it looks like they are going to get away with it.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 It boggles the mind that people hate the government, but keep voting for, you know, the party that controls the government (at nearly all levels)....

Scalia's death and the ensuing BS in not allowing Obama to nominate someone probably seems like ancient history considering how this election cycle is going. The Dems probably should have/should be hitting that much harder. Or maybe they are in areas where GOP senators are at risk, I'm not in one of those areas. Nationally it has been talked about much too little since the primaries if you ask me.

It's been a total afterthought. And while I wouldn't make it the top priority, it's among the highest priorities.

I'm pretty confident Kirk (R-IL) isn't going to be re-elected, but he came out pretty early on stating that the Senate should be doing its job so it hasn't been a debate issue. Although I'm not sure how hard he's been lobbying his colleagues in the Senate to reverse this blockade. There was something else he went against the Senate GOP on, too, but I can't remember now.

"Worker" in quotation marks sounds apt. It'd be nice if we actually started getting folks who were willing to show up and do their jobs. Or a job, any job.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Haven't you heard "Chuck Grassley works"? It doesn't matter that he hasn't seen fit to hold hearings for Garland. He is a shoo-in despite the historic obstruction.
jimmer Verified Member Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Progress! And out of curiosity, how many women has Montana sent to Washington since her?Not a clue. 'Since 1917, when Representative Jeannette Rankin of Montana became the first woman to serve in Congress, a total of 313 women have served as U.S. Representatives, Delegates, or Senators.' http://history.house.gov/Exhibition-and-Publications/WIC/Women-in-Congress/
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 I'm voting against Grassley for this very topic. Ultimately it was his decision to follow Mitch McConnell. It has been a topic in Iowa, but amazingly people just seem to not care. It's pretty incredible really. The divide between metro areas and rural is fairly stark, I'm guessing that is consistent with everywhere though.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 How is everyone spending the evening? Watching election returns somewhere? Drinking heavily somewhere trying not to pay attention until a winner is announced? I'm off to play tennis tonight. It will do me some good.

Because it's National Harvey Wallbanger Day! 3 parts vodka, 1 part Galliano and 6 parts orange juice, poured it into a highball glass and garnished with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 I have not decided what I'm doing tonight yet. If I don't watch, it will be a first. If I do watch, I'll probably be unhappy and annoyed.

My mother in law is staying with us, and let's just say she votes opposite of me. So I'll probably be watching and drinking. Hopefully I can think of a good reason to go watch (and drink) in the basement all by myself.
