Coming transactions

The Twins have some moves to make.  Shane Robinson is due back from Family Emergency Leave tomorrow or Sunday.  I believe Nuñez is eligible to come off the DL tomorrow and Arcia a bit later next week.  I see that Stauffer is rehabbing in Rochester.  Outside of Doug Bernier, I don't see any easy moves to make.

Jordan Schafer and Nuñez don't have options remaining.  Bernier could declare himself a free agent if he is designated.  Stauffer also can't be demoted without his permission.

I would have to believe that Eddie Rosario will be optioned when one of the outfielders is ready to go.  I really don't see a place for Stauffer and I would think that Schafer either is DFAed or goes on the disabled list.

Rosario will be optioned once Shane Robinson comes back from family leave.

Bernier has options left. So leave him on the 40-man for now. No need to designate him when Nunez is ready.

Stauffer will probably replace Tonkin or Pressly. My guess would be Tonkin.

It'll be awhile yet for Arcia to complete rehab at Rochester so that will give the various Twins outfielders time to pull a hammy or a quad.  In other words, don't  worry about Arcia's spot until it gets closer to him re-joining  the Twins.

This sounds mostly about right, but.....   I'm not sure, but isn't Bernier eligible for free agency as a Rule 55 guy if he's released and no one claims him?

Probably, but if he is optioned, he doesn't go thru waivers. That only happens once we need his 40-man roster spot.

Plus, he has re-signed here as a minor league free agent, I doubt he will bolt from us midseason. For that matter, it is unlikely anyone claims him or offers him a better opportunity at this point.

I also think nater is just about right.  I think Bernier is optioned when Nunez is ready and Tonkin or Pressly go back to AAA when Stauffer is ready (not that I'd keep Stauffer).  Rosario may go down when Robinson returns, but here I think there's a good chance that Schafer gets put on the DL.  The interesting question is what to do when Arcia comes off the DL.  I'm not a big Arcia fan, so I'd leave him in Rochester to work on his defense and get his strikeouts down, as long as Hicks is performing.  Of course, something could happen in the meantime to make that move unnecessary.

I believe Rosario back to AAA when Robinson comes back.  Bernier to AAA when Nunez returns.  Both Stauffer and Nunez will probably get rehab assignments so we will have to see.  Would guess that Tonkin goes to AAA when Stauffer returns, but would like to see Oliveros get a chance.  Believe that Tonkin is an AAAA pitcher, so would not mind to see him go.

Nearly all the coming moves are predictable; Stauffer for Pressly, Fien for Tonken, Nunez for Bernier, and probably Arcia for Rosario; big question is after Schafer comes off DL. Unless Hicks is hitting a ton by then, I think he goes back down also.

I hope the roster starts turning over when some of these guys return.  For one, Stauffer has done nothing,  I much prefer to see what Tonkin can do (I was particularly impressed with his performance in Detroit) for another, it is probably time for Hicks to show what he has meaning Schafer has no position to play.  Pressly has looked pretty good, too.  Perhaps keep Pressly and cut ties with Duensing.

With the INF talent on the farm, why would the keep Bernier?  Gut feeling is the Twins are giving him one last moment in the sun and will release him.  Also guessing Molitor will want to keep Rosario around a little long.  That kid needs to cool down a little

I don't know about Hicks going down.  Right now, he IS hitting a ton and Molitor likes what he's seeing, as far as keeping his head in the game.  They should [finally] consider moving Nunez.  I don't really see his value to the team, as they have Escobar.

I agree with just about all of this, Schafer on the DL allows Rosario and hicks to get a longer look. I think Arica will replace Rosario, since Eddie needs some more fine tuning at AAA. Hicks may just stick around the rest of the year. Obviously vernier is out for Nunez. But I think the twins could make some other moves, what about letting santana work on his fielding and pitch selection at AAA for a few months and let Escobar play short? Give Vargas a month or two in Rochester and let hunter, Mauer and Arica DH?

Schafer and Stauffer should be DFA'd. I'd give Duensing a few more tries and see if he can gets things together, perhaps similar to how Boyer has rebounded.

I'm not sure the Twins will do anything 'major' here. We've just seen Robinson in, Schafer to the DL. I predict Rosario will be sent back to AAA when Arcia is ready, and Bernier will go down for Nunez. As for who will go down for Stauffer? Not sure what the call will be there. Duensing?

Nailed it with the Schafer DL call.

I wonder if this is retroactive since Schafer hasn't played since May 10. If that's the case he should be available to come off the DL in about 9 days or so.  Maybe May 25th.

I believe DL time is always retroactive to the last time the player was in a game.

I think I believe that the players currently disabled do indeed have injuries, but I notice that the players performing least well seem to be the ones who have wound up on the DL. I suppose their poor performances could be because of injuries, but the coincidence just seems curious.

I would hope they have no intentions of leaving Bernier on the 40-man for very much longer.

Not to worried about Bernier yet... That spot will get used up when there's someone not on the 40 man that deserves it. I can think of a couple relievers as well that will likely see their spots on the line if needed.

I'm quite certain that Stauffer will get the benefit of the doubt because of his contract and be given another chance to show that he can be part of the major league bullpen, probably primarily in long relief. I hope he does really well, but I also hope they don't stick with him too long if he doesn't.

Who in the pen do you think he replaces when he comes off the DL?

Take your pick, plenty to choose from.  I may have missed something because I haven't seen it in this conversation, but when is Fien expected to be ready to return?

Pressly has made 4 of his 6 appearances in long relief / mop-up situations, plus another when we were trailing in the 9th.

Tonkin only has 3 of 7 such appearances, and his other 4 were all pretty standard/important middle relief situations.

Given that Stauffer would probably be going back to the long relief / mop-up role, at least initially, I'd guess Pressly.  It also wouldn't surprise me to see them carry an extra pitcher at some point -- they arguably should have this past week when Schafer didn't play at all anyway.  They probably don't need a 5th outfielder AND a second utility infielder, especially when the names in question are Schafer and Bernier....

Listening to Inside Twins and the build up of Fryer combined with avoidance of mentioning Pinto in the catcher question, I wonder if they are setting up a Fryer move up to the Twins.

I hope not.

Wouldn't surprise me.  But minor league numbers don't always translate--see Hicks, Aaron, Parmelee, Chris and for pitchers Slama, Anthony.
