  1. Trout hovering off a rookie lefty specialist. The only one that appears surprised by that extreme likelihood is Molitor.
  2. I haven't checked for sure but I think that was one of the first time this year May was brought in the middle of an inning with runners on base with game on line since he was converted to late inning reliever
  3. The time to call up Berrios was when Milone got hurt. Instead they call up the less accomplished Tyler Duffey. Then after Hughes gets hurt they put May back in the rotation on short rest for one start and then call up Duffey again, despite his poor start at Toronto. That should have made it clear the Twins FO had no intention of calling up Berrios this year. Pushing up against an inning limit, why would they change course now?
  4. He pitched well for Angels and Royals. I think it's clear he's not a good juice-free pitcher.
  5. Outside of Perkins bullpen is now totally unreliable. Big difference between Twins and Royals
  6. It's another bat, probably Arcia, to get down to 12-man pitching staff again and have more PH options in NL parks
  7. You're joking about Parmelee right?
  8. I listened to Gleeman @ Geek show today and Bonnes was once again talking negatively about Rosario even though he is raking, hits in the clutch and plays excellent defense. At the same time Bonnes was more than willing to give Hicks yet another chance and put him in a corner OF spot even though he doesn't even hit well enough as a MLB CF.
  9. Rosario has much more upside as a hitter than Santana and his speed is just as good. In his minor league career Rosario showed more plate discipline with a SO rate of around 20% and BB rate of around 7%. He's clearly still learning MLB pitchers and strike zone and has cut down on strikeouts from his first few weeks while hitting nearly .300
  10. At some point, the Twins will have to add Ervin Santana back to the 40-man
  11. At 700 OPS Rosario is 5th highest among regulars, behind only Dozier, Hunter, Plouffe and Maurer (706) and ahead of the .657 of Vargas, who most everyone wants to bring back up and put in the 5 hole
  12. Yesterday's lineup included Robinson, Santana, Herrmann, and Rosario. The lineup has needed help for a while now. They should try and do something about it, not throw up their hands and just say "it's a flawed lineup, nothing we can do," while Writing Robinson's name in the 2 hole. Find it interesting that you put Rosario and his 2-4 day and .289 avg. In that group but left out Hicks, who went 0-3 and popped up yesterday with the bases loaded with nobody out and is now hitting .244 with only 2 RBIs, both came on his 1 HR
  13. The Tigers have been spending like drunken sailors for a long time, way more than their market size, all in their owners obession to win a title before he dies. imagine what the Twins might have accomplished in the early 2000s if the Pohlads had gone all in for a title.
  14. The problem is, the way I understand, is that the Twins won't decide what to do with Nolasco until he throws a bullpen session on Thursday. But will they make that decision before they have to make a roster move for Milone for Thurday's late afternoon start? If not they probably will have to option an effective reliever, either Pressley or Thompson. I don't understand why Gibson isn't starting on normal rest Thursday to give them 1 more day to decide whether Nolasco is healthy or not.
  15. It was premature to extend Hughes especially considering the Twins also signed Santana to a long term deal and Nolasco is still under contract for 2 more years after this season
  16. Twins started to unravel last year after managing only 2 runs while getting swept at Fenway. After tonight's game I'm fearful of history repeating itself.
  17. In 2014 the Royals had the highest differential in the league between actual runs and BaseRuns. Here's part of FanGraphs analysis: "The Royals had an elite defense and bullpen, which probably explains the majority of the difference between the actual runs allowed and predicted runs allowed. Having an elite bullpen seems to confuse projections a bit." In comparison, I would argue Perkins, as an elite closer, has been the key reason the Twins have outperformed their BaseRuns projection. (the insertion of Rosario and Hicks into the outfield has given the Twins a more Royals-like defense.) If Perkins and the setup men, especially Boyer, can continue to produce a shutdown bullpen the Twins have a chance to continue to defy the BaseRuns odds.
  18. For me, the biggest negative with Vargas is he is super slow. With many hits, he is held to a single when almost anybody else would have a double. I even member a game when he was on first and was forced out at second after a clean hit to the outfield. His ability to score from second on a hit to the outfield also is a rarity. Unless he is hitting it over the fence regularly, he tends to clog the bases.
  19. Oliveros in stints with Tigers and Twins has a career 5.22 ERA, 1.466 WHIP and -0.1 WAR. In my book that's pitching poorly at ML. If any Rochester deserves a shot with the big club, it's AJ Achter
  20. No that would be the April 29 game when the Twins blew a 4 run lead to the Tigers after Tim Stauffer started throwing batting practice and the Tigers slow running catcher hit an inside the park HR courtesy of Jordan Schafer's awful fielding in CF. Casey Fien was the hard luck losing pitcher and also got hurt. In fact I believe tonight was his first game back since then
  21. I'm sorry but I'm not happy for Collabello. After a hot first month, he was awful for the Twins. I'm betting he eventually reverts to that form with the Jays
  22. I suspect part of Arcia's struggles defensively this year have been having to play LF, as opposed to RF, where he had spent the bulk of his time in the minors and with the big league club. Until Hunter is gone, the best bet I think for Arcia would be to DH, with an occasional start in RF to spell Hunter. Rosario is a far superior option defensively in LF, plus he's now hitting around .280. Rosario and Hicks are getting to a lot more balls than the options the Twins had at the start of the season. Look what good outfield defense has done for the Royals. Let's try to replicate that as much as possible.
  23. Twins have fared well against lefty starters this season but I wouldn't be surprised if they struggle mightily against Buehrle, who always seemed to dominate the Twins even during their contending years
  24. I have no idea why Stauffer wasn't asked to pitch the 9th Monday with a five run lead. That would have seemed the type of situation to ease him back in. At the time, I questioned why Molitor brought in Boyer to pitch the ninth, seeing that he has become the most effective RH setup guy. Then, after pitching again on Tuesday, Boyer wasn't available for 8th inning Wednesday when the game was on the line. Fortunately, Pressley and then Tonkin came through.
  25. The scale is the only place Sano will ever compare to Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera has a career .321/.398/.565 (.963) slash line. Sano will never be that. That's OK. Very, very few will ever be that in MLB. At age 21 Arcia hit .328/.398/.557 (.955) in AA. At age 22 Sano is hitting .248/.348/.503 (.851) in AA. The kid may grow to be awesome, but let's not anoint the new King too soon. Interesting that you compared a full AA season of Arcia to 1/4 season of Sano this year in which he got off to a slow start after sitting out entire 2014 season. In Sano's last full season at age 20, he hit .280/ .382/ .619/ (.992). That may not be quite Cabrera like but it's pretty close.,
