Alex Meyer is having a good game!

Just because it was a double header.

Thanks for the clarification. I was a little confused at my desk reading that Atcher gave up a walk-off in the 7th inning!

I know, but you would still need two predictive outcomes come to pass, Meyer still has to jump over two of three veterans in some fashion.

I think Pelfrey is an afterthought the second we have a better option.

To get back on topic, I would be ecstatic to see Nolasco's name erased from the rotation for good and have Meyer take over the 5th spot in the rotation. Other than Hughes and I guess Gibson, I don't believe anyone has earned the right to have their name etched in stone in our rotation as of yet. Might as well experiment in this rebuilding season.

A seven inning professional baseball game again? That's not pro baseball. I hate that.  Like playing a double header after a postponed game is too much for these guys. I thought if you are in the minors, it is a given that you need more work, not less.

I am guessing teams would prefer it this way to not wear out their relievers in the minors.

Hope so, not sure of it.  The Twins ride the mediocrity horses for far too long, and are also adverse to the kind of drama that ensued after Pelfrey's first demotion to the pen out of ST.

I am not going to pay huge attention to ratio's after 15 innings.

If Gibson was pitching for the Royals, his LF makes the catch and his pen doesn't let two runners score after he leaves (one on a wild pitch).  Scratch that, any other LF makes the catch.

Right on the money.   3 earned runs is unfair.   He was obviously not sharp the whole game but kept a hot KC team to 1 run through 5 and with average defense or good relief help gets through 6 innings with maybe 2 runs scored which is a quality outing.     Gibson needs to pitch a lot worse than that for a longer time before demotion should be considered.     Right now the hierarchy should be Hughes based on what he did last year.  Gibson based on how he did last year.  Milone based on two good starts this year.  May based on his minor league season last year and his last start this year.   Pelfrey, then Nolasco.    All starters are allowed duds but really last nights does not qualify.

I would rather have them find a way to have Meyer replace Nolasco and Pelfrey.

Tall order asking Meter to fill TWO rotation spots, but I'm OK giving it a shot.

Off-topic, but I don't like the fact that the 31 and 29 year old non-prospects are playing both games of the doubleheader at DH and 1B, while the team's best hitter Pinto's day is done after only 3 PAs.  Barring some sort of injury, why can't the prospect DH the second game (and against a LHSP)?

Generally agreed, and Gibson's first start this year looks like it could be a bit of an outlier in terms of GB/FB rate.  I wouldn't even be thinking about bouncing him from the rotation in the near future, although his prospects for a 2015 breakout have diminished somewhat.

Well, he is 6'9" after all...

Look, I love Gibson but right now he's awful.  He's struck out 3 guys in over 15 innings and he's not getting ground balls.  Something's not working.  Hopefully, he comes out of this.  But if he's still throwing like this in a couple weeks (assuming Meyer is pitching better) then send him down and fix it in AAA.

If you're going to send anybody down, make it Oswaldo Arcia. That guy is such a klutz in LF that he's costing the team games. If you want to keep Hicks on hold, then bring up Adam Brett Walker. Compared to Arcia, Walker's at least as good a hitter, can't be a worse fielder, doubtless a better base runner. Arcia needs to learn how to field a fly ball. Let him make his mistakes in the minors.

I don't think anyone wants to play (or see) 18 consecutive innings of minor league baseball.  These guys already ride buses and play for peanuts, give them a break.

No one - not even me - is calling for anything to be done off of 15 innings.  I specifically said If he's throwing like that in a few more weeks, send him down.

2 Scenario's

Nolasco bumps Pelfrey to the pen shortly, which bumps Thielbar or Boyer.

In 2 weeks, the odds are good that Milone falls apart or it is clear Nolasco is still hurt and needs something done.  Enter Meyer*

*assuming he continues to have an idea of where the ball is going.

I REALLY would like to see what a rotation of Hughes, Gibson, Milone, May and Meyer could accomplish.  Pelfrey has to know that his time as a starter is likely short.  If May has another good outing i don't see how the Twins can justify sending him back to AAA.  This is what i was saying before the beginning of the year.  Why did the Twins bring Pelfrey back?  He just isn't needed as a starter.  Perhaps the FO thought he'd be more receptive to a BP role, but we all know how that situation played out in ST.  If Nolasco stinks it up again upon returning then the Twins have a very difficult decision to make.  You have 2-3/4 years left and 30+ million still owed on that contract.  What do you do with him?

???  Walker is 23 and posting a .308 OBP in AA.  When Arcia was 23 he had already lost his rookie status.  There's no comparison between the two.  Arcia is a good ML hitter, who could become really good, and Walker probably doesn't make the majors.  (But this is way off topic).

Hell, there is a decent chance MY fat ass makes that catch

Add 2 or 3 starts to 15 innings and it still isn't enough for me. I am keeping controlled, younger guys coming off a 3.80 fip over several of the others in the rotation.

Yeah, awful may be a bit further than I'd go, but he's not missing bats at all. Not good....though Hughes isn't getting whiffs either.

I'm also having a good day, and part of that is because Alex Meyer and Taylor Rogers had good days. I like good days    :)

Not to be the Debbie downer, but Meyer has had 1 good start after 2 really bad ones. I think it's a bit premature to ask who he is going to replace and when.

SEND HIM TO THE MINORS to mentor our young studs

Meyer Rogers total: 12 IP, 6 hits, 4 walks, 17 FRIGGEN STRIKE OUTS AND O GOOSEHEAD RUNS. Send them all down but Hughes and May and bring the Youngins up. Throw in Dean if you want.
