  1. Concur. I wanted to believe, but he's not shown much. His minors power is actually quite disappointing. SlG only .452 in the minors, .402 at AAA and sub .400 in the majors so far are huge red flags IYAM. The "lost a minor league season to covid" excuse is beyond lame. So did everyone his age, and players lose seasons to injury all the time. It was 3 years ago, it's close to a nonfactor. If you can still get value for him, do it.
  2. They're literally considering moving Jorge Polanco to third. Jorge Polanco. In favor of Julien. Hitting gets you in the lineup, always, everywhere.
  3. "Bottle necks" are mostly imaginary. Nobody that demonstrates the ability to hit gets blocked for long, if at all. In rare cases where it does happen, it's a good problem, not a bad one. Julien had 38 games and 178 PAs in his first AAA opportunity. He was never blocked and would have been up by now regardless Polanco's health. Wallner will continue to get opportunities in Minnesota unless he plays his way out of them.
  4. So in your 3 season look, Buxton has OPS's against LHers of .997, .917, .582 I think you meant to say he's been a problem in 2023, and wasn't available enough in '21 and '22.
  5. I take extreme exception to "excellent long-term players." Long-term, probable. Excellent? Extremely unlikely, as with 99.9% of prospects. The last time the Sox sold off they acquired quite a haul...and as noted above have mostly losing seasons and Luis Robert to show for it. The most likely outcome is neither have any real impact. If one or the other turn into average or better big leaguers, good for them, good for the Sox. But the most likely outcome of this trade in terms of impact on the Twins is that we won't see Giolito in the September White Sox series.
  6. "Two excellent long-term players"? Heh. Also, aren't we first taking care of business in the central THIS year?
  7. If only Cole Sands wasn't in the witness protection plan, maybe he could have been asked to pitch 3 innings or so. But it appears we're playing with 1 fewer pitcher than everyone else. Ryan clearly didn't have it. Couldn't locate, velocity noticeably down. Lots of traffic on the bases. Arguments to be made to take him out after 3. Also arguments to leave him in, to be sure, but "no relievers available" isn't really one of them.
  8. I think this is mostly about getting rid of Lopez. He's been a distraction off the mound, and in addition to some less than stellar pitching, a sometime embarrassment on the mound. He's someone Rocco will only use when he's forced into it. Better for all involved to move on.
  9. Nitpic, but Moran put 3 runners on, not two. He pitched to 3 hitters: BB, BB, RBI double. Pagan came in with no outs, a run in, and runners on 2nd and 3rd. He gave up an RBI ground out, then a 2 run HR. Then finished out the inning. He wasn't good, but only 1 runner, and 1 run, were his fault. Three of those 4 runs were on Moran, and properly charged to his pitching line. You simply cannot come into a game up 4 and walk the first 2 hitters. Inexcusable.
  10. I have the Twins at +130 on throwing a scoreless inning today. I should have gotten longer odds, I think.
  11. Zero hyperbole. Momentum and confidence are real.
  12. Jovani Moran changed the course of this series with his incredibly awful 3 batter performance last night. Cruising to a 6-2 win, everyone feeling great, players playing loose and free, Seattle drudging along to a loss, then boom.
  13. There's a limit to how much we can afford, and how much we can carry. I'm afraid the Dutch ovens are going to have to pull double duty as chamber pots.
  14. When Facing Right-Handed Pitching: 119 PA, 25 H, 8 Doubles, 3 HR, 11 BB, 24 K, .240 AVG, .740 OPSWhen Facing Left-Handed Pitching: 267 PA, 63 H, 19 Doubles, 12 HR, 20 BB, 57 K, .264 AVG, .843 OPS You have that backwards. 119 PAs vs LH pitching, not RH. 267 PAs vs RH pitching There are always way more RH pitchers than left, so when I looked at the above I thought, "weird...Candelario has faced over twice as many lefthanders as righties this year?? That cant be right." So I looked it up. It isnt. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.fcgi?id=candeje01&year=2023&t=b Career wise he's a little better vs LH pitching, https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.fcgi?id=candeje01&year=2023&t=b But what Candelario's career really shows is 2023 to date is most likely not sustainable. He's got 8 yrs of .736 OPS behind him. Pass.
  15. I'm hoping Thielbar provides effective help, but I'm not counting on it. He's 36 and hasnt pitched in weeks. And Stewart's history isn't really much different than Ortega. I am NOT expecting the magic pixie dust to still be there. Hope I'm wrong, but I don't think there's a very good chance real bullpen help exists internally.
  16. Everyone, everywhere sees a bullpen implosion. The Mariners didn't rally through good hitting. They rallied because Moran and Ortega melted down.
  17. Not here to defend Pagan, but Moran was the primary cause of last night's 8th inning, not Pagan.
  18. It certainly doesn't help. I said here maybe a week ago I figured Sands must be in the witness protection program.
  19. Maybe Thielbar, but he's 36. I wouldn't count on him. I don't think Stewart has even started throwing yet, and let's keep in mind he's a waiver wire pickup. He had a nice run, but he's almost certainly not a front line guy.
