    Great question. Per BBRef (the greatest website since at least the mid 1800s) 2023 to date: -4 2022: -4 2021: +2 2020: even* 2019: +4 * 60 games, lack of spring tng, bastardized schedules, players opting out etc. tend to ignore 2020 when evaluating history. YMMV All of that adds up to -2, with ~45% of 2023 remaining. Not sure there's much there.

    Agreed, with regard to the Twins. I'm the huckleberry who spent all winter complaining about the lack of hitters in their lineup. The larger issue though, is the theory put forth by some that "k's are just like any other out." I do not concur with that theory. I believe Ks are a problem in and of themselves. Just as I believe Ks are a good thing, in and of themselves, for pitchers.

    I don't agree with this at all. Sure, Nobody goes up to the plate looking to K. But clearly someone, somewhere has decided there's not enough downside to K's to discourage them, either. Swing hard, damn the situation, damn the count. And I don't think that's a good way to play offense. Of course we look at outcomes when considering process. Why wouldn't we? Joey Gallo has 3 career sac flies. That's because he Ks too much.

    Off topic, but can someone find this quote from his agent? Not saying it's not out there, but I can't find it. I do remember the TWINS saying Lewis would be playing 3rd in his rehab, which seemed to be a reaction to Miranda's struggles more than anything.

    Wait, what? I can't see a trade for Goldschmidt happening, but...he is exactly the type of hitter we DON'T have in the lineup.

    No need to apologize. I just disagree. It's pretty straightforward to me. Get better. And it doesn't seem to me complicated.

    1. Goldschmidt was an example. It could be somebody(s) else. There's basically nobody anyone should worry about replacing or moving. It's as straightforward as straightforward can be. 2. But If you want to talk Goldschmidt specifically, ok. He's at .284/.369/.475 for the year. With a LONG history of stellar production, including a .981 OPS in 650 PAs as recently as last year. He's 35, so maybe that's his last great year, but he's without question better today than any current Twin. It's not even close, and he's likely to be so for another year at least. 3. Nobody said he would "fix" this offense. I was addressing the OP's point that it wouldn't be "straightforward" to improve the offense. Well, yeah, it would. Get better hitters. That'll improve the offense, and except for SS and perhaps 2b it's pretty straightforward to put a new guy in and drop or shift the incumbent. It couldn't be MORE straightforward. Who are we worried about losing playing time? Joey Gallo? 4. If you don't think swapping out Goldschmidt for Kepler, for example, is a straightforward way to improve the offense, then I don't know what to tell you. Or the OP author. 5. Goldschmidt specifically is a pipe dream anyway. I doubt StL trades him and if so, it won't be to the Twins. Again, he's an example of how perfectly straightforward it would be to improve the offense.

    Concur. It's hard for me to understand someone making that argument. And to top it off, most of the same people consider Ks the holy grail of pitching.

    Actually, it's really very straightforward. There is nothing complicated, for example, by putting a Paul Goldschmidt at 1b. Nothing. It's a no brainer. You move Kirilloff somewhere in the OF. Done. You don't even need to give that 1 second of thought. What are we worried about...Gallo? Kepler? The Twins are giving regular playing time to Donovan Solano, MAT, Joey Gallo, Max Kepler. Willi Castro. Kyle Farmer. Hell, we've recently seen Solano hitting 4th. There's AMPLE opportunity to improve the lineup. Easy, low hanging fruit. It's pretty straightforward. Nobody is getting pushed out of anything deserved or showing huge promise. I suppose there'd be some fans clamoring for Trevor Larnach, but he's proven nothing. Earned nothing. He's currently got a lower MLB OPS than Kepler, ferpetesakes.

    I'm not a draftnick at all, but Already a corner outfielder, with surgeries on both hips and a broken hamate bone in his medical history? Eekah-zeekah.... Hope it works out.

    This is rock bottom for 2023, IYAM. -it started bottom 1. You get a walk and a double to start the game, with the eminently hittable Kyle Gibson on the mound, and your 3 4 5 hitters can't even push a second run across. - said Kyle Gibson somehow goes 7 innings, gives up no more walks 1 more run, and Ks 11. Set Down 17 straight at one point. Kyle. Blanking. Gibson. The 11 Ks is a career high, BTW. - Aaron. Blanking. Hicks. Are you KIDDING me?? - Buxton somehow manages to swing and miss AT A 3-0 Fastball. LOL. I'm not sure, but I don't believe I've ever seen that before, and I'm willing to bet I'll never see it again. A 3-0 fastball. Pretty much batting practice. Swing and a miss. From a MLB hitter. Hitting 3rd in your lineup, no less. Talk about embarrassing. Just freaking awful. Said it after Atlanta series, agree with Aggies above...how has nobody lost their job yet? At the very minimum, how do the hitting coaches-yes, coaches. More than 1-still have jobs?

    It's literally their job to trade away the bad ones. The trick, of course, is to differentiate between the bad ones and ones before it's obvious. They haven't distinguished themselves, IYAM

    To be fair, though, it's PRECISELY the job of the people evaluating talent, at all levels, to be right more often than wrong. And I think it's damn tough to make an argument in the Twins favor on this critical job. You can't name very many real success stories, particularly hitters.

    I'd say the bigger mistake was who they traded FOR, rather than who they traded away.

    I'd agree the Cubs probably don't care about a salary dump, although EVERY owner pays at least a little attention to the bottom line. However, Bellinger's contract with the Cubs includes a mutual option for 2024, which I'm reasonably certain prevents the possibility of a QO. The Cubs can't decline the option, then make a QO. It also means there's at least a chance Bellinger is here for 2024 too. And if Buxton isn't gonna play CF, they need better than MAT. Bellinger's huge year came in 2019, so it's a little suspect, but it was a 1.000+ OPS MVP year. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bellico01.shtml

    This offense has been described as "inconsistent." I do not concur. The offense is tragically consistent.

    Can you show the math on this? We can easily open up 8-10 spots next offseason, but adding 1 player now changes all that?

    The 8th was the top the order for Baltimore. I have no problem with asking Duran to get the top out in the 8th, and someone else take the 9th I kind of doubt the 8th would have been Stewart's, even if he was available.
