    I certainly had...have...higher hopes for Ryan than "back of the rotation" starter. And if that's what he ends up, that's not "a good thing." For one thing, nobody should ever want a "back of the rotation: starter even IN their rotation.

    He's better at his job than anyone else inside or outside? Since May 1st: May: .165/.313/.342 Jun: .184/.226/.340 Jul: .128/.226/.340 In that 3 month span he has 28 hits. 28. Twenty-eight. A little over 2 per week. 1 per series. 18 RBI. With 10 of those coming on HRs. That's right...8 RBI of other players in 3 months. Half a season. 92 Ks in 175 ABs. Yes, that's correct. Over half a season, more than half his ABs ended in a strikeout. That's the best player for the job, inside or outside the org??

    Not getting bullpen help is a failure to execute their job. Plain and simple. There's no excuse, no logic. Help was traded. At reasonable prices. We have obvious weakness in the pen. There are no realistic internal options. Complete. Failure.

    What? He gets credit for a fly ball now? They pinch hit for him with runners on 2nd and 3rd, one out... with a RHer on the mound. And it's not the first time they've done it. Think about that. By the way, Jeffers and the St Loius SS led to the 1st run.

    Every time I read this old saw I grind my teeth. Good relievers are NOT fickle. Just the opposite. Placeholders are fickle. And filling your pen and AAA team with placeholders is what leads to problems

    There's zero reason Sewald shouldn't be in the Twins pen today. Arizona got him cheap.

    None of this is accurate. Civale is not horse-bleep. Maeda isn't worth the same. Regardless who you think is the better pitcher going forward (likely Civale), Civale comes with 2 more seasons of control.

    Yeah, dismal loss. Three in a row now. A couple notes: 1. I don't like PHing for Julien or Kirilloff, unless it's the 9th inning or later. I know Rocco didn't PH for Julien last night, but he PH Solano for Kirilloff in the 7th. There's just too much chance Kirilloff bats again. Perhaps Kirilloff's shoulder still hurts, then don't play him. 2. The bullpen...yeesh. I know there's nothing to be done about Duran, but the rest of the pen is really weak. And hoping 36 year old Thielbar and waiver wire pickup Stewart are magic bullets is ... hope at best. Hope isn't a good strategy. 3. Notice they planned on 7 relievers being enough for this series...and 5 got used last night? Heh. Can they limp through the weekend?

    Every winter I beg and plead for bullpen help. Every winter I read how relievers are "fungible," "not reliable," and "easy to acquire." And every summer, we all beg for pen help.

    Concur. I wanted to believe, but he's not shown much. His minors power is actually quite disappointing. SlG only .452 in the minors, .402 at AAA and sub .400 in the majors so far are huge red flags IYAM. The "lost a minor league season to covid" excuse is beyond lame. So did everyone his age, and players lose seasons to injury all the time. It was 3 years ago, it's close to a nonfactor. If you can still get value for him, do it.

    They're literally considering moving Jorge Polanco to third. Jorge Polanco. In favor of Julien. Hitting gets you in the lineup, always, everywhere.

    "Bottle necks" are mostly imaginary. Nobody that demonstrates the ability to hit gets blocked for long, if at all. In rare cases where it does happen, it's a good problem, not a bad one. Julien had 38 games and 178 PAs in his first AAA opportunity. He was never blocked and would have been up by now regardless Polanco's health. Wallner will continue to get opportunities in Minnesota unless he plays his way out of them.
