  1. A new drama is coming soon to the Netflix - Baldelli and Gray. A containment-specialist asset battles against not only the forces of evil, but also against his own handler. How long will his bull dog attitude keep him on the job before the by-the-book management ships him off to some hell hole (Oakland or Kansas City perhaps)? Tune in every five or six days to find out.
  2. YES! The removing of Lewis for Kepler was the best example of bad use of the opposite handed theory. Lewis hits right-handed pitchers far better than Kepler. They will never learn how to hit same-side pitchers if they never get an opportunity to do so. And pinch hitting in the early innings is really stupid. By the third inning, you have burned through your bench players. Idiotic is a polite term.
  3. The baseball draft is such a crap shoot that I don't spend much time thinking about it. That being said, I do like reading articles like this and compare it to the actual results. With three picks in first fifty, I just hope the Twins hit on at least two of them and hopefully all three.
  4. The game was not available here in the Northeast so I have a question. Why did Kepler pinch hit for Lewis? Lewis is hitting almost 130 points higher than Kepler (and about 80 points higher against right-handed pitchers). I thought metrics were the guide? Did Lewis get hurt?
  5. I'm trying real hard to understand what this FWAR/WAR crap is about. But if either uses where a player positions himself when the pitch is delivered, then I can't accept it as valid. Since Cuddyer was used above as an example, I'll use him also, If the manager of the team uses metrics to have Cuddyer play shallow one year and deep the next year, why is Cuddyer rated as a poor fielder one year and a good fielder another? He's the same damn player. My belief is that the the eye test works better in determing if a player is good or bad. I don't need metrics to tell me Kepler is an improvement over Sano in RF. I can determine that by just watching.
  6. Here's another "one last thought". I would not put much effort in going outside the organization for additional help this year. It might get the Twins into the playoffs but only for the first round (and yes I know about the Phillies last year). It's time to think of the bigger picture. Get the younger players up from the minors and see how they do, Sell older players at the deadline to teams that have a chance to win. As for Pagan, he is on the team because he has "stuff". Personally I would rather have a guy that can get someone out than a guy with "stuff" and hasn't ever used it.
  7. From what I'm reading, the "technical approach" to hitting is favored by Popkins and the front office. That may be the source of the problem. A good hitting coach should take advantage of what a player does well and tweak that to enhance success. It appears that Popover and the FO try to remake every batter to fit some technically developed hitter. That won't work.
  8. I think Kepler will be very much in demand when August arrives. School districts everywhere are always needing substitute teachers.
  9. I mentioned him yesterday as an addition to the roster when I commented on a "let the kids play" remark by DocBauer. Maybe I have psychic abilities???
  10. I agree. Here is my proposed lineup right now. Assumption: Buxton, Correa, Polanco, Kepler, and Vasquez all placed on the IL. CF Andrew Stevenson 2B Eduard Julien SS Royce Lewis 1B Alex Kirilloff RF Matt Wallner LF Trevor Larnach 3B Brooks Lee C Ryan Jeffers DH Jose Miranda Bench: Taylor, Castro, Solano, and Jair Carmargo What's your lineup?
  11. Even if the Twins had a .400 hitter, the next three guys would just strike out and leave him stranded.
  12. But did this new leader believe in analytics? If not, the Twins wouldn't hire him (or her).
  13. I just returned from The Netherlands where wind power is the primary force that controls the water levels of the entire country. A lot of money was spent creating this resource. They should have just bought the Twins and relocated them to Amsterdam.
  14. Does Rocco schedule mandatory rest days for pitchers? Maybe that needs adjusting. 😁
  15. I almost agree 100% but not quite. I would think that the only teams that would trade for a Polanco/Kepler/Gallo player is a contending team needing to patch a hole. And the only thing they would trade is prospects. Now, if the Twins are sellers at the deadline, I would hope they can trade all three (and others).
  16. I know that my opinion flies in the face of "modern" thinking, but I would prefer to see a return to fundamental, team baseball. By this I mean: Hustling at all times Hitting the cutoff man Being aware of what's going on around you (such as Kepler not advancing on Taylor's steal of third) Attempting to hit (not obliterate) a baseball Putting the team goals ahead of personal goals Allowing healthy players to play every day (not have scheduled days off) To accomplish at least some of the above goals, a whole new mindset is necessary. And that means changes not only to the roster, but also to the front office, the manager, and the coaching staff. I have always been a strong proponent of the current front office and of Rocco Baldelli, but I will admit the error of my ways. The season may still be salvageable but changes need to happen fast. Otherwise, the next off-season better be a thorough cleansing.
  17. The title of this article should be THERE AIN'T NO HELP IN ST. PAUL!!
  18. Lee isn't on the Twins so the question is between Polanco and Lewis - who plays 2B?
  19. You want the guys with the most range up the middle but you hope that Polanco is at 2B for a few more years? Isn't that a contradiction? Why aren't you advocating for moving Polanco to 3B and Lewis to 2B? Or is your theory only valid some of the time?
  20. In my youth, I remember a kid playing for the Minneapolis Millers (AAA affiliate of the NY Giants) who was hitting .477 with 8 HRs and 35 RBIs when he got called up. He started his major league career by batting .175 in his first 15 games. But the Giants stuck with him. And Willie Mays ended up being the Rookie of the Year (and had a decent career). I'm not saying Julien is the next Willie Mays, but don't write him off just yet.
