  1. If the Yankees offer up a potential "closer in waiting" for Jeffers, make the deal. But I was responding to your assertion that Larnach, Bell, Wallner, or Lewis would bring back "a capable" arm. Maybe Lewis or Larnach, but that might be a 50-50 chance. No way Wallner or Bell would bring back anything better than a .lottery ticket.
  2. The only teams that would be willing to trade a "capable" arm are teams that are building for the future. And those teams sure ain't looking at Larnach, Bell, Wallner, or Lewis as their future saviors. They would want at least one of Rodriguez, Culpepper, or Gonzales and an A ball pitcher. As the Twins new GM, I'm not making that sort of trade.
  3. The Twins are on a pace to lose 85 games. That's a five game improvement over 2025. But, only three teams have made the playoffs with a losing record and those were in altered seasons (two shortened by strikes and one by Covid). If the Twins somehow grabbed a playoff spot, they would be the worst winning percentage team in history to make the playoffs. This is no time to be a buyer.
  4. Why do positions on the field have to be decided by batting profile? Brian Dozier should have been a right fielder, I guess. Hey, Kansas City, move Bobby Witt, Jr. away from SS. I would rather see players at positions at which they provide the best defense.
  5. Is "rangey" even a word? Regardless, I strongly disagree. I played 3B for many years and I was most definitely not "rangey" and I had a mediocre arm. I compensated for those shortcomings by playing closer to home plate. I was also playing goalie at the same time and I had above average reflexes which I honed on the racquetball court by standing close to the front wall, hitting the ball as hard as I could, and fielding it with my glove. (And, yes, I did look stupid wearing a baseball glove on a racquetball court.) My 3B philosophy was to play "a step and a dive" from the foul line. And, if you know anything about cutting down angles (a goalie, remember), by playing more shallow, I could compensate for my lack of range. A good SS also helps immeasurably.
  6. Buy- Buy - Buy. The Twins till have a small chance to be a wildcard team and get bounced in the first round.
  7. Just showing up and skating hard for over 60 minutes are two completely different things. I agree the playoff system sucks, but that's another topic.
  8. Another reason why I don't care if Buxton has lost a little in the speed of his throws. It doesn't make a whole lot of difference.
  9. Byron Buxton has played 11 years in CF (nearly 6600 innings) and has had 24 assists: that's just over two a year. The average number of assists last year for players with over 700 innings in CF was 4.98 (Baseball-Reference.com). If Buxton loses a little arm strength and his assists drop to under two a year, I can live with that.
  10. I think my decision is the same as yours. Just the fact that the Twins are only 1.5 games out of the playoffs tells you how bad the AL is (my apologies to New York and Tampa). And now that I think about it, the Twins are 2.0 games from being in the playoffs. If they make up the 1.5 games, that only ties them for last.
  11. What else could management have said except that they have confidence the team's ability to reach the playoffs? They took a stance before the season started (possibly in an attempt to rationalize making no off season moves), that the Twins would be competitive and aim for the playoffs. They have about a one in three chance to make the playoffs; but would anyone make a bet that they get past the first round? Unless the Twins dramatically improve over the next 40 days, I certainly wouldn't.
  12. You must not have been a TD reader very long. There ha e been numerous absurd articles over the years and this one is just another one. 😁
  13. Two items from the perspective of my couch in Maine. 1. Joe Ryan. Talks should already underway with his agent on an extension (including an AAV dollar amount). If the front office is convinced he would sign an extension at an acceptable amount, sign him. If the response from Ryan's agent is that Ryan would not sign an extension, trade him. 2. As with all trades, the return has to be acceptable to the front office. Otherwise, just say no and see if the offer changes.
  14. IMHO..... The first step is to get a yes or no from Joe Ryan [or his agent] on whether he would be open to an extension. If he isn't, the Twins should be sellers and he's now on the trade block.
  15. To be fair to Keaschall, in the double play video, the throw from the SS was pretty lakadasical and didn't give him much time to pivot, avoid the runner, and then throw to first. A better throw from the SS would have resulted in a DP and no controversy.
  16. If, and it's a big if, Culpepper, Houston, Lee, Lewis, and Keaschall (and maybe Cholowsky) are all fighting for infield and DH jobs, the Twins would not have to waste money trying to find a DH (or first baseman) and concentrate on piching improvements.
  17. Cody - Just a clarification, please. This article dropped 17 hours ago; sometime around 3:00PM on Saturday. So when you say that something will happen on Saturday, do you mean the Saturday on which you posted this, or the following Saturday? The former implies that activation could happen in a day or two. The latter implies the activation could be in ten days or longer.
  18. Does he really throw side-arm? That could be the cause of his inaccuracy. Side-armed throws have a tendency to fade to the right. Can it be controlled? Can it be changed? Or is it acceptable as it now is? So many questions.
  19. As of this morning, Buxton has scored 46 runs; 21 of those runs scored were a result of him hitting a homerun. The 2 thru 6 hitters have only caused him to score 25 times. Seems more like he is being wasted as the leadoff batter.
  20. Where are these "other places"? I do not live in the Midwest so I get no coverage of the Twins. That's why I prefer details over hyperbole.
