    And yet, they didn't trade Jeffers and Ryan at the trade deadline because the Twins had a tiny chance of making the playoffs, albeit with a sub .500 record.

    There is a lot of discussion at Twins Daily about following the model of Tampa Bay or Cleveland. And yet, when they had the opportunity to do just that at this year's trade deadline, most posters railed against trading Ryan and Jeffers because the Twins had a small chance of possibly getting the final wild card spot. And after that, who knows what could happen. And now reality is settling in. As of this morning, the Twins are tied for 6th in the race for the last wildcard spot. This means the Twins have to outperform 6 other teams over the final 31 games. Possible? Yes. Probable? Not likely. Trading Ryan and Jeffers was the move that a Tampa Bay or Cleveland (or Detroit or Chicago) would have made.

    I've read this numerous times and I still can't figure out what you are trying to say. I'm assuming you really don't mean "aerate" the pitchers they face? And if they hit well against poor pitching, should 't their record be better than "mediocre"?

    The Twins held on to Larnach (see above) and Ryan who has been on the IL. What a huge opportunity loss. Instead the Twins are still dreaming of a wild card slot so they can send out the fearsome playoff pitching foursome of Ober, Bradley, Kremer, and Matthews. They will strike fear in any opponent.

    Fangraphs overprices everybody. If Larnach is "worth" $14M, then Bell is truly a steal at $7M.

    As a first baseman from the age of 8 until I moved to third at 23, I am convinced that a high percent of Lewis' missed scoops are because of the way the ballet at first is being taught now. We were schooled to stand tall at first with hands held slightly above your head to present a physical target of where to throw (I also yelled to give the fielder an auditory signal). Both feet were on the corners of the bag facing towards the field of play. Once the ball was thrown and you determine where it's going, you make two simultaneous moves. You stretch towards the throw and slide the other leg across the bag to the corner from which you stretched. More of your body will be facing the throw. And on any wide throws, you don't have to cross one leg over the other and it adds inches to your range. How many inches is determined by your height and arm length. For me at 5'10" with a 33" sleeve length, it adds about 5" in each direction. But I would now be considered a shorty and the additional extra length now would be around one foot.

    It's tough to be "undersold" on a player who had a .152 lifetime BA.

    The paragraph about Colby Turner was quite melodious, but no where did you mention that the 107.5 MPH laser beam didn't just go to left field. It left the park. It would have been nice if you had mentioned that minor detail.

    Thanks for ruining a nice read. So what if he never makes big leagues? He's still having a great year. And I enjoy reading about the guys that aren't the high draft picks. And he's outperforming the Twins' top two picks in the latest draft. Try enjoying life. It will be winter soon and then everyone can start bitching about what the front office is not doing.

    FanGraphs must be owned by the players union. It put a $8M price tag on Ober and a $16M price tag on Larnach. Ober is an extra starter on a starting pitching staff that ranks near the bottom of MLB. And Larnach is a mid-range outfielder (who should NOT be on the field when the Twins are on defense) That's a $24M value(?) on two players that may both be DFA'd when the season ends.

    That is true; but it is also a sad commentary on 2026 American League baseball.

    If the draft compensation is an agreement between the owners (as you stated), then what say in the matter is it for the MLBPA?

    Why would the owners eliminate the draft pick compensation in 2027 if the QO has already been offered and signed with a draft pick as part of the agreement? The players aren't involved. After all, "It's an agreement between owners vs. owners, not players vs. owners". The CBA should not impact this scenario.

    Question for the masses. Does the 130 AB rule include walks, sacrifice flies, sacrifice bunts yes they still do exist), and HBP? That would drop the required ABs significantly. There are only 38 games left (including today). That's not many games to reach 130 "official" ABs.

    They should have been sellers. At the trade deadline, they had a lot of holes to fill, but were tied for the final wildcard spot and people got excited. Since August 3rd, four teams have passed them and one has moved up to tie them. Next up are one game with Philadelphia, three with Atlanta, three with San Diego, and then three against their 2026 Achilles Heal - the Athletics. The Twins will probably lose even more ground. Their last 38 games include 18 with teams that are ahead of them in the standings (plus the 10 games mentioned above). I always thought that buying this year was a fool's errand and , IMHO, I believe that I am right. I hope I'm wrong (but I really don't think I am).

    You must have had a long day, late night, or both. "Eric Orze and Julian Merryweather each had two outs in a scoreless inning" (four outs?) "Darren Bowen came on to get the final four outs in the fourth inning" (four outs again?) "Yassar Mercedes went 2-3 with a walk, his 19th stolen base, and his 34th stolen base" (what happened to stolen bases 20 through 33?) I'm sure it all made sense at the time.

    Two Vahn Lackey comments. First, on his triple, Clearwater's CF looked like Keaschall. And second, every caught stealing looks identical. Very fast to his feet; the exchange from glove to hand is even faster; his throw to second is a laser; and the arrival point is on the first base side of the base and no more than two feet off the ground. I think this highlighted throw was the furthest from the tag that I've seen.

    If the Twins had made that trade, they would be kicking themselves. Greene is now out for the season and 2027 is in doubt.

    I hope Keaschall didn't make any plans for a long winter vacation. He needs to spend most of the winter in Fort Myers learning how to play in the outfield. He reminds me of watching Canseco in his heydays.

    With the plethora of fancy new "advanced" metrics, one can always be found to support your point of view; usually by putting a + sign after or adding a lower case letter (or two) before another metric. I.E., OPS+ WRRR, wOBA, wRC+, ERA+, IR-A, or IR-A%. The best metric to me is DHGTSORN (Did He Get The Save Or Not). 🙂😉😜😁

    Someone needs to explain to Tait that when you hit the ball, you start running to first base. Standing in the batters box admiring your hit may cost you a game some day.

    No need to be condescending. Yes. I did read the paragraph. As a person who was employed for years as a book editor, my opinion was the your intent may not have matched the words you chose. You were saying that if they lose Jackson, the Twins have no one in the minors to call up. And then you said the Twins have no MLB depth in the minors. Personally, I thought your intention was not clear. There clearly is depth in the minors, just not someone you can call up right now. But you would only have to call up someone if Jeffers or Caratini got hurt. Then the Twins call up anyone they want to be the bench-sitting backup catcher. Hell, if my knees would let me, I could be the 13th player that sits on the end of the bench.

    your words were MLB depth in the minors. I guess you can take that two different ways. And if details matter, you have to write clearly what you mean. And I read earlier today that this season is not going to be (And I' to any book in the series. That could be good or bad. (And I have always thought that casting Tom Cruise as Reacher in the movie was worthy of a death sentence penalty.)

    So when you said that the Twins had "no depth" at catcher in the minor leagues, you just meant at AAA.

    The Twins minor league depth of catchers is the best it has been in a very long time.
