    Interesting. Both MLB.com and ESPN.com show the Twins losing to Houston 8-3 on July 1st. I thought they had beaten the Dodgers in game one of their series but, again, both sites showed the Twins losing all three games. I don't know who to believe.

    Except the long-term contract will also lose value if there is a work stoppage. You "forgot" to factor that into your 2027 numbers.

    You are promoting Jeffers and Larnach as prime targets for Tampa Bay. But then you say that Tampa Bay consistently looks for players with "positional flexibility". Jeffers is primarily a catcher with occasional time at 1B. Larnach is a questionable LF, but should be a DH. Neither offer Tampa Bay positional flexibility.

    Decline the QO? Why would anyone turn down $23M for a one year deal? He can be a free agent after 2027, can't he? And because there may be a work stoppage during the 2027 season and you may be without an income, why not get paid as much as possible before you have to sit on your butt for a couple months?

    If the return is favorable, trade him. Otherwise, keep him. That goes for every player. Just asking "should they" is meaningless without knowing the return.

    The "potential strike" makes Larnach and Ryan more valuable now than post season. If there is a prolonged strike (or work stoppage), both of these players are pretty useless as trade targets next year.

    I agree. I was just responding to the comment that Pohlad can't veto a trade.

    I agree that "all assets can be traded later" but they would be traded for diminished returns.

    Mostly I agree. But Pohlad can easily veto a trade by saying "I ain't paying for that."

    IMHO, standing pat is the dumbest path. Either pretend that you believe the Twins are a playoff team and buy additional help. Or face reality and admit that, even if they make the playoffs, they will be golfing soon after and trade all expiring contracts (and I'm including Ryan if he is not willing to sign an extension). They should also be willing to listen to all offers for any player who is not "essential" (open to interpretation).

    Is Ryan going to sign an extension in the next 10 days? If yes, then don't trade him. If no, then out the door he goes.

    At the beginning of your article, you state that the Twins have "one of baseball's deepest farm systems" and "one of the premier organizations for young talent". According to who? Before the season started (March 2026), you wrote an article about farm system rankings. In that article, you shared the following rankings of the Twins' farm system: ESPN - 8th Baseball Prospectus - 8th MLB Pipeline - 9th Fangraphs - 12th Baseball America - 12th The Athletic (Keith Law) - 21st I would say that these rankings say that the Twins farm system is slightly above average, not "deepest" or "premiere".

    Time to trade Ryan. And if the front office is worried that attendance might drop every 5th or 6th game, bring up Jenkins, Culpepper (both kinds - pitcher and fielder) and either Rodriguez or Gonzales (whoever is healthier). Put them in the starting lineup for the remainder of the season. That might raise interest and attendance every night.

    The Twins are looking more and more like sellers every day. So here is my perspective. Trade the following for the best talent they can get. Ryan (assuming he will not agree to an extension), Jeffers, Larnach, Martin, Wallner, Bell, Rogers. Keep on the roster: Pitchers: Sands, Raya, Prielipp, Lopez, Festa, Banda, Acton, Abel, Bradley, Gomez, Morris, Matthews, Parades, Rojas Catchers: Caratini, Jackson Infielders: Lee, Clemens, Lewis, Kreidler, Culpepper Outfielders: Buxton, Keaschall, Roden, Jenkins, Mendez, Rodriguez DH: Gonzales This is only 28 players so that leaves a lot of room for free agents and trade acquisitions. A quick look at this partial roster makes me think that the pitching may not be a problem. Add one strong reliever and one #4/#5 starter and things look good. Catching is what has been available most of the summer. The infield is Lee at 3B, Culpepper at SS, Clemens at 2B, and Lewis at 1B. Hopefully the trades provides one additional infielder. The outfield is Keaschall in LF, Buxton in CF, and Jenkins in RF with Mendez and Roden as extras. Gonzales is the DH. That is the Minnesota Twins in 2027.
