I'll take zero runs allowed over all your xyzERA/FIPPITY DIPPITY "advanced" metrics. If Abel keeps allowing two or less runs per start, I'll be very happy even if the advanced metrics tell me he sucks. And then, your "working out of a jam isn't a thing" comment. HUH? Is that because no one has invented a mythical statistic to measure it?

I don't know if he will sustain this pace. I really doubt he will. But, I was commenting on the statement that Lee had "barely" improved lately.

So far this season, after 10 game, Houston is hitting .289 with an OPS of .883. There is hope.

I would pick Wallner every time. There is nothing sweeter than watching a "clutch" hitter taking a pitch right down the middle for strike three, and then unsuccessfully challenging the call because he's embarrassed.

Almost 100% of players called up to the majors are from the minor leagues. Some stay, many go back. You named mentioned five who stayed. Not a big list.

Who is this Calvin of which you speak? Are you talking about John Calvin, the 16th century theologian? Or maybe Calvin Coolidge, the 30th president? Maybe Calvin Griffith, former owner of he Twin? In any case, what does this obscure naming even mean?

The first hit up the middle was more like 5-10 feet left of second. And moments latter, he managed to catch a very similar hit which held the runners to a single base.

The definition of a strike has not changed (ANY part of the ball crosses the plate); just the accuracy. If a pitch is that close, step towards it and hit it to the opposite field.

With the ABS system in place, having a catcher with an eye like Jeffers in invaluable. In my opinion, the discussion about framing is irrelevant. If a strike is called incorrectly, challenge it. Jeffers is doing extremely well at this. I also think that excessive glove movement by the catcher to frame a pitch might be making it more difficult for an umpire to make the correct call. The circumference of a catcher's mitt is roughly four times greater than the circumference of a baseball and hides the true path from the umpire. And the more that larger circumference move, the less of the ball is visible to the umpire.

I really like the enthusiasm shown by Lewis and Lee over the past two days. BUT... for heaven's sake, quit looking towards the dugout for peer approval when running to first.
