  1. Two items. 1. To be competitive in 2026, all the Twins need is a "deftly executed deal"? That made me laugh. Falvey making a deftly executed deal is highly unlikely. 2. The only mention of Jerran Duran I've read out of Boston (I live near Boston) is that he is being projected to be a 4th outfielder. I wouldn't trade Lopez or Ryan for a 4th outfielder.
  2. There were two things that struck me in the OP. 1. The quote from Falvey in which he says "It was my stated goal before and remains my stated goal until I'm told otherwise." This sounds like something a husband would say. "This is what I believe and I won't change - unless my wife tells me to." 2. I keep hearing that the "plan" is to keep what they have now and add help where needed. How can you add players if you don't have a semi-firm budget already in place? IMO, they will do nothing until a month before spring training starts, then finalize a budget to work with, and try to sign whatever reclamation projects are unsigned.
  3. Who said anything about their financial statements? What is the budget? Who are the new investors and do they have any say in running the team?
  4. I'm not convinced that Martin as a utility guy is a good idea. I think that a lot of his late-season improvement is because he played the same position each day.
  5. Ticket and merchandise sales? Should I buy season tickets? Build fan interest? Being honest/transparent for a change?
  6. This may be the first time in all the time I've been on Twins Daily that I actually agree with @Blyleven2011. Until ownership lets the front ofice and the public know what the hell the budget restraints are, you really can't blame Falvey, Zoll, or Shelton for not trying to strength the Twins. But with no guidance from the owners, the front office has their hands tied. They can't pursue any free agents (or trades) that would add any salary to the payroll if they don't know what the ownership will approve. And they shouldn't make any moves the lowers the payroll if the savings go in the pockets of the Pohlads. If I were Falvey, I would look for work elsewhere.
  7. We got our first snow today in Maine and the next few days will be barely above freezing. Predicting a draft that will take place eight months from now seems pretty pointless. I'm just having trouble getting excited over guessing what might happen. So until something actually happens (the mystery owners are unveiled, a decision on the budget is made, a trade is made, etc.), I think I will follow the example of many of my woodland neighbors and hibernate until spring.
  8. Before I read this article I have one question: Is this the same article as the one Matthew Taylor submitted on September 9th?
  9. Without any indication from the front office concerning.... 1. Payroll 2. Specific long-term and short-term goals 3. Information about the new minor stakeholders (who they are and if they have a voice) 4. A definition of "contender". A chance for a meaningless wildcard or Central Division title, or an actual World Series title? .... it is difficult for me to even attempt to envision what the Twins may look like on Opening Day or what the next few years hold. I am spending far less time reading Twins Daily than usual and more time searching for news about the Wild, Vikings, Gopher football and mens hockey (although all these have their own level of disappointment attached. I'm glad my local library is well stocked with mystery/murder novels.
  10. Please tell me where you are seeing/hearing "rumors continue out of Boston". I live 90 miles from Fenway and I have neither seen nor heard any rumors about Ryan.
  11. He will be a great example for the young starters coming up who the Twins want to move to the bullpen. Hawkins did it and lasted 21 years in the major leagues.
  12. Yesterday's moves remind me of the old joke about what do you call the sudden deaths of 100 lawyers? A good start.
  13. I think outhouse is a very good description of the situation.
  14. I live in New England where the only baseball news is about the Red Sox (unless something bad happened to the Yankees) and I haven't read or heard anything about the Red Sox trading for Ryan.
  15. How low could the payroll get? That would be 40 players times league minimum. That's the lowest salary can get (without contraction, of course).
  16. Competitive for what? A possible run at the last wildcard slot? And a quick exit from the playoffs?
  17. What in the world are "veteran innings"? Does the opponent only get two outs? How are they different from a "regular" inning?
  18. The question was what do you currently have control over that you would no longer have control over after he is tendered.
  19. After Ryan is traded, of what are you "losing control" that you now have control over?
