I live in New England where the only baseball news is about the Red Sox (unless something bad happened to the Yankees) and I haven't read or heard anything about the Red Sox trading for Ryan.

How Low Could the Minnesota Twins' Payroll Go?
terrydactyls replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How low could the payroll get? That would be 40 players times league minimum. That's the lowest salary can get (without contraction, of course).- 63 replies

Arbitrary Thoughts: Bailey Ober
terrydactyls replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What in the world are "veteran innings"? Does the opponent only get two outs? How are they different from a "regular" inning?- 28 replies

Arbitrary Thoughts: Joe Ryan

The question was what do you currently have control over that you would no longer have control over after he is tendered.- 51 replies

I keep reading that the Twins need all three to be a "contender" in 2026. A contender for what? Certainly not a World Series contender. And I think that they are not even an American League Central contender. They need a makeover. If trading Lopez means losing Buxton, it would be worthwhile to at least find out what teams would trade for one or both of them. Ryan should be traded regardless. Commit to a rebuild and start now.

Funderburk raised his strike % from over 50% to 53%. Sounds good until you dig deeper. According to Statcast, Funderburk threw roughly 750 pitches in 2025. Using last year's % (rounding down to 50%), that would be 375 strikes. Using the newer % of 53%, he threw 397 strikes - a difference of 22 more strikes. Over the 41 innings he pitched, that would mean roughly 1 additional strike every two innings. That doesn't seem like much of a change.

Arbitrary Thoughts: OF Trevor Larnach
terrydactyls replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have a serious question about the arbitration process. If Larnach has no speed, plays awful defense, can't hit left handed pitching and is mediocre against righties, and no other team wants to trade for him, why does he get a raise through arbitration? Seems like the arbitration process guarantees a raise regardless of performance. That seems rather stupid to me. -
That's it!! You've discovered the identity of the Masked Investors! They are Ty Pennington and the Property Brothers. Good job @Major League Ready.

Rocco Baldelli Wasn't the Problem
terrydactyls replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
But that's the driving force behind Twins Daily. A place to expound on theories that are supported only by your vivid imagination. 😄 For example, there have been a lot of comments this year saying that the manager is/is not responsible for player development once they have reached the major leagues. Most of these comments are very adamant about being the truth regardless of which opinion you hold. No one yet (to my knowledge) has provided any factual evidence to support their position. I would love to see a management organizational tree provided by the Twins outlining which positions are the final authority for different tasks (i.e. player development, hitting philosophy, baserunning, fielding fundamentals, etc.). Might be helpful to back up your opinions. I know I have opinions on with whom the final authority lies for these behaviors. But I have no factual evidence to support my thinking so I refrain from commenting. -
My gut feeling, based on prior decisions of the front office, is that the Twins will move very slowly. This will allow them to make a very low offer to the last remaining candidate while claiming that "due diligence" is a tedious but mandatory process. The final choice may very well be a Pohlad relative who hasn't worked in five years. "He has a long history of being in baseball" will be the mantra of ownership.

Falvey was touted as the guru of the pitching pipeline in Cleveland. In 2016, the Twins hired him to do the same thing in Minnesota. Nine years have passed and Cleveland is still producing pitchers and the Twins have not. Was Falvey the right guy to hire? I think they hired the wrong guy.

Are there any relatives of Falvey or the Pohlads who would like to be a manager? Nepotism is the most current trend in real life, so why not in baseball? 😃

Last game on Sunday. I believe the Twins hold the tie breaker so the Twins' have secured the second worse record. Team Record GB 1. Minnesota 70-91 ---- 2. Pittsburgh 71-90 1 I just thought of a question about the tiebreaker. The first tiebreaker is the head-to-head record. The Twins won two games and the Pirates won one. Does the best record win the tiebreaker? Or, because this is a race for the worst record, do the Pirates hold the tiebreaker? Anyone know?
